Our Great Father, the Sun, has turned His face back upon us; the Light returns to quicken our Great Mother to fecundity; we are assured of another year.
Those of us in SoHem: well, you know; condolences; good harvests to you, one ever hopes.

I lived 10 years in a 8 ft. x 20ft trailor house. All my electricity was from 2 solar pannels, about 48 watts each, nearly 100 watts in full sun. That was about 1 kilowatthour per day in the summer. Winters not so much. So the winter solstice was a big deal to me. Still is. Always will be. So a blessed solstice to all. I used to have a Wiccan friend. That's how she said it.

Dam it i love these evenings where i can be in the garden till 9.30pm, oh well, a month either side makes bugger all difference, after that its slow gradual down hill slide to winters glum.

I read in Wired Science that December 20th the day before the solstice had a lunar eclipse in the northern hemisphere making it the shortest daylight day in the last 500 years . My christmas is always part Thanksgiving and part relief the daylight minutes will be growing again

I love this time of year, starting the winter garden. I sow my winter brassicas from the solstice through to late January just as the days begin to shorten.
