Some pics of two of my purple snowpea lines seed crop. I paid some friends with more garden space to grow a good amount of seed for distribution. Feel like i can put these projects to bed now that I've got a nice big seed supply. Time to throw out the fridge full of various generation lines that were there 'just in case'. T

And now, it needs a good name.

And now, it needs a good name. got the names - the green-seeded one is 'Jupiter' named for the friend who passed me the seed of one parent, and the purple speckled seed is 'Delta Dusk' - named for the parent of the other line - Delta Louisa, bred by an Aussie pea and bean enthusiast David R Murray. Both are dwarf purple snowpeas, bred from Purple Podded. With varying amounts of disease resistance. T

Nice Work! Any pictures of them before they are dry? Any plans to market them in AU? If possible in the future i'd love to get some seed to try here in the states. But great job! Should make a hit with your local culinary chefs! here is a picture of the best purple snow pea i had in 2016. A remnant of of Dan Quickert's 'Midnight Snow' line. Here's hoping i can reselect a hardy strain from the work he did. Even so, this one did well enough to survive these last few years. i1010.photobucket.com/albums/af224/keen101/Garden%202016/DSCF7534_zpsta16juod.jpg

Did "Midnight Snow" have a hypertendril trait? I'm not familiar with Quickert's work. No, i don't believe it ever did. Dan is the author of purplepeas.netDan is from California i think. A lot of the original seed he sent me did not grow all that well. Not sure if that's because it was more adapted to California climate at the time or what. But Midnight Snow is still worth trying if Dan has more seed to share. He was also working on a purple Snap or two. I don't know how he got along with that project. Yeah, from the photo i posted above it kinda looks like it is a hyper-tendril plant, but i'm pretty sure that's just because it was growing next to my other Sugar Magnolia plants. Fairly sure anyway. I suppose i could have misidentified it, but i don't think so as that was the only purple snow i've had. From my planting map from last year it looks like i planted in a triangle pattern: Sugar Magnolia next to Sugaree, next to "purples" which were a bunch of random purple podded ones (including a few Midnight Snow seeds i still had).

keen101 (Biolumo / Andrew B.), Some pics are available on my facebook page jupiter purple snow peas Delta dusk looks just the same, but has a different snow parent. marketing is an issue - takes lots of time that i just don't have at the moment - and do i just launch it and wave goodbye? I've distributed a few packets to some growers i know, but no one has really got enthusiastic about it - i suspect they think it is difficult to make decent cash out of snow peas - relatively low yields in kilos, trellising, picking etc. I spoke to one farmer last week, who may have spare room next spring, and he was way more interested in coloured baby carrots than snow peas. And I'm not limited to AU - most of my seed sales (of other stuff) have been international - the US and France featuring most prominently. and thanks for the interest. T
