I just noticed one cydonia quince up, and am delighted. Anybody try those quince? I mail ordered the seeds from Van Dusen's, and several more seeds have chitted, and I'll pot them soon They are rated 5(b), so I'm right on the edge, 5(b)/6(a). I got a grafted one too, but it will bear better with a pollinator, so seeds in the mail too. Quince jam, quince butter, quince slices in light syrup....ah

I love quince. A little goes a long way though. We have six trees and that's about five more than we need. The geese like to eat the extra so it all works out.
Not quite as long a wait from seed as many tree fruits. We got about a dozen fruits the fourth year and much larger crops thereafter. Last year our oldest tree (9 years) produced 55 gallons of fruit.
I need to learn how to make quince wine.

I, too, have more quince than I can deal with; quince wine would help, and I expect to make dulce de membrillo, a very nice snack with manchego cheese.

Yeah, everybody gets membrillo as a holiday gift every year. That takes care of one bucket.

How do you feed quince to your geese? The thought of quince-fed Winter goose is intriguing; goose rillettes on toast with a slice of membrillo beside, yum.

I don't have to do anything but let them drop. Only the first bite is tricky. They will roll them around until they trap them against something and then they can get started.

I have a large array of different quince varieties as saplings in the orchard and am expecting my first full crop this year. If people are interested in outcrossed quince seeds I hopefully should have some......

Ohhhhhhh, yes, I'd like some. The Kids are moving and it would be nice to start some for them too. I suspect it will be a few years till mine bare, so your seeds, should you be able to send some, would be great.
