I've developed and interest in growing some of these Korean specialty vegetables, they seem worth exploring.
Codonopsis lanceolata- deodeok
Doelingeria scabra- chwinamul
Oenanthe javanica- minari, water dropwort
Platycodon grandiflorus- doraji , balloonflower/bellflower
I'm already growing the Platycodon and water dropwort/minari is available from Kitazawa.
I'd welcome any pointers on finding the other two.

In what way you can use Platycodon as vegetable? I know it only as am ornamental so far.

In what way you can use Platycodon as vegetable? I know it only as am ornamental so far. The root is eaten as a cooked vegetable. In Korean it is known as doraji. Here's a recipe using dried root.

I have deodeok. I'd be happy to send you some if you don't have another source. The seed is three years old and I don't know how well it holds up.

So it turns out that Sample Seed Shop carries Codonopsis/Deodeok so I will go ahead and give them a try since they come recommended by zeedman and others. Thanks billw.

I was in Seattle area one week ago and visited an H-Mart, the big Korean supermarket chain of west coast.
My wife found a seed rack and grabbed a bunch of Korean vegetables she had never seen before, among them (I could only look for the few words that I could read on each one): “Korea Aster Chwinamul” - this is aster scaber, I assume “Crepidiastrum sonchifolium” “Liqularia fischeri (LEDEB.) TURCZ.” “Circium setidens” “Codonopsis lanceolata” (I am already growing this one, but the seed pack here seemed bigger than the one I got from Sample Seeds.)
Last year I tried to germinate some older aster scaber seeds from trixtrax without success, not sure how long the seeds are good for. I will try the new seeds next spring. I can send some to you next spring if you want.
Now that I know (some) H-Mart carries seeds, I will keep an eye on interesting things in the future, especially in spring. (The nearest H-Mart is in Portland area, where I visit from time to time.)
