My frost free season is about 91 days: June 5th to September 6th.

The last 4 days of rain have probably destroyed 15 pounds of tomatoes and what was left of the melons. The river here is up, but its not as bad as a regular spring flood yet.

Tropical Storm Florence seems to be roaring toward the Carolinas, but almost anywhere from FL through the midAtlantic is at risk. If you are also in this zone, keep an eye on the advisories, and be safe! www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at1.shtml?cone#contents. (Models of the predicted track are quite wide and variable at this point) There is a pretty good train of tropical disturbances coming along behind this storm, so it looks like a busy month!

I'v always wanted to see, feel and hear a hurricane. I have friends in western NC. I'm really tempted to drive down there next week and take a side trip to the east side of the mountains.

Bob Marley said "Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet." The lasr 24 hours has been strange. A light mist that feels like snow falling on my bare arms and face. I have to stand a while to get wet. 24 hours of this and the rain gauge is still nearly empty. I could learn to like this. But mostly we have drought or downpours. A good dounpour, with lots of thunder and lightening is interesting to. I've never thought about visiting a hurricane. I probably won't get around to it.

If Flo was headed this way, I might consider a trip . . . to Indiana, LOL!

Eight inches of rain last couple days plus some. I forgot to dump the gauge last evening, rained all night but was mostly light overnight so maybe another inch. Cooled off a lot too, high yesterday was 64 F. More than thirty degrees cooler than the week before.

Nights on the farm are getting comfortably cool; hoping for an early and copious rainy season.

My nights are getting uncomfortably cool. But I'm not ready to turn on the heat.

Switched from hazy, hot and humid to chilly and wet all at once. It's still raining now. High pressure coming from up north will probably contain Flo and her brethren to the MidAtlantic, which is fine by me...we've had more than plenty rain the past two months, and storm surges from hurricanes, Superstorms or just irritable tropical depressions would be most unwelcome.

Milky blue sky here today from Australia, i presume it will be from controlled burns, along with the smoke is some warmer air

Sky-watching at night on the farm has started to require a heavy jacket; so welcome, sweet Autumn seems to have come. The air is clear and day-temps are dropping to levels bearable even by me.

Florence has arrived in New England. I feel like I should build an ark.

Frosts starting to lighten off now on clear nights, another three weeks and it will take a Antarctic blast to produce frost after that
