It was really nice here yesterday with lots of sunshine and high 60s. Unfortunately I got roped into a trip to a city to shop for a car. I suppose they serve their purpose for many but I absolutely hate interstate highways and cities. We did find a 2010 model car with just 47,000 miles and bought it. Could never have done that locally so guess I shouldn't complain.

Today the weather guessers are saying NZ record temp (42.4C- 108F)could be at risk. Its a combination of a bloob of hot air off Oz blowing over sea water that is 5 degC warmer than normal then add in the foehn wind effect, NW wind off the mountains. May not be a lot of gardening going on here today.

Yes, with humidity that's hot. I remember Niger in the hot season. 115F for days in a row. Weeks in a row. But with only 4% humidity, our armpits weren't even moist. But being an island, I suppose your humidity is way up there.

Humidity was around 30-40%,so not too bad but didn't end up been as warm they forecasted, still warm enough getting to 34C

Apparently you can change the weather by bitching whining. After my 'lament of waking up cold' last week, the weather has now decided to be in the 80s. Exclusively. Forever.

Lovely T-shirt weather, by 10AM, this week; pretty normal here this time of year; the bad news is that we're well below NTD and Spring rains aren't usually heavy, so it looks like another relatively drought year coming.

We are back at 10 F this morning. I won't complain, at least it's on the plus side of zero.

I keep reading about the cold temperatures back east (west of Denver in my estimation), and in comparison, we have had a mild winter here in the valley. We've had consistent snow on the ground, since the first of December, but less than a foot, and it might melt off this week.

I'm not prepared to call this a cold winter or a mild one. Its a damn erratic winter. We've had many days below 0 deg F, but then we've had several instances were it gets mild and in the 40 deg F range. So no snow accumulation to speak of, lots of ice. Its been a very icy winter so far as all the paths where I habitually go around to the sheds, barn, and fields get packed with snow which then converts to ice. Pain in the neck and I've put my slip-on ice grippers on my boots. Most years I don't need them.
Yesterday it was t-shirt weather in the 40s and sunny. Today it was 0 deg F this morning and we've got 2 inches of powder snow and below 0 wind chill. They are calling for rain again by Wednesday. I don't know how this will affect the orchards, but I expect it will be a lousy sugaring season,

I don't know how this will affect the orchards, but I expect it will be a lousy sugaring season, According to my electric company, this Dec--January was MUCH colder than the same period the previous year. Averaged 18F this year, versus 36F last. But erratic is the word. We've had basically the same weather as you, just 5F warmer or so. Lots of ice. I don't think we'll have good bloom on lilacs or peaches or other trees with low chill requirements; we've had too much warmth followed by hard freezes to expect the buds survived. and Day you're making me giggle. What you need is an extended period of cold weather--then 50F will feel balmy. In college I had a friend who came from India and had never been in the cold before, and we were studying together in MONTREAL. In October he was walking around complaining it was #(**%$#) freezing; by January he was running out into the snow in his bathrobe exclaiming it was glorious.

"trudging through the snow in that deep space silence" EDIT: what in tarnation To the first point. Nice way to put it, match it with a little light freezing frost drifting through the air sparkling in bright moonlight. The first breath you take crystallizes your nose hairs. Each footstep makes a little crunch noise. I'v spent more than a few nights sleeping on the ground in such conditions, only the hoot owls and coyotes for company. That's been awhile, like a lifetime ago but I still enjoy long walks in such conditions. For some reason your description stirred a strong nostalgia. To the second point, Ya messed something up.

Ya know, of all the magical powers I could have asked for, spontaneously converting bbcode into html wasn't exactly my first choice. Can I re-roll? To the first point. There were some days in the 'teens like that which I do remember fondly. Coldly, but fondly. However, those pitch black -40° hikes to the Logan Museum and back (for a class on the psychology of oppression and torture, no less) were not my favorite memories. Maybe if I hadn't been in so much physical pain, I might have been able to appreciate them more. That silence I will always remember, though. Nothing has ever felt quite as apocalyptic and empty as that far stretching and indifferent silence. I like the sound of your long walks much better XD

The silence is one of the best parts. Uncomfortable as it is extreme cold is beautiful especially at night. I don't think I ever camped quite at that temp, -20 for sure but not -40.
I'm not that tough anymore, it's 14 above right now and I'm glad to be sitting by the stove waiting for it to get fired back up good so I can go back to bed.
