I painted all corn cobs with an oil chili mix after the first racoon attac. I had only few plants so not a great deal. No attac since then Might be worth a try?

I've tried that in the past, but it easily washes off In rain and requires that a recoon tries to eat your corn in the first place. In my experience it is not that helpful because they still break the stalks and tear off the cobs before trying to eat them before being discouraged, so that still leaves broken plants and cobs torn to shreds. Not a solution for me. But hey if it works for your then that's good.

Maybe spray the whole plant?
Prolly wouldn't work for me in Cali, as They've likely scavenged enough Mexican food to have gotten a taste for chili.

We had a really warm spring this year and now it is summer like in July since some weeks. I think at least there must be some variation these volunteers as only these 2 are flowering. Most of them are smaller and no flower buds so far. The only drawback are the closed anther cones. I have many seedlings in my greenhouse from last year volunteers. I hope to find some plants with more open flowers, more suitable for allogamous pollination.

Bad news. I found my seeds storage was devasted by mice. All melon and all cucumbers are lost. I paused this season with Melons and Cucumbers. Back to start

Sad to hear that. I've had that problem years ago. I've also lost seeds to insects. Now it is the freezer for my seeds.

I've also lost seeds to insects. Now it is the freezer for my seeds. That was exactly what I had in mind. I was only busy with other things... One should never wait for the next day.

A giant groundcherry. It is about 1 1/2 meter (60 inch) in height. Never had such a big plant before.
