Now I have been planing tulips for over 40 years , finding out they like heavy acidic soil better than sandy clay, at least if you just leave them in the ground for three or four years. Any way this fall I planted some tulips in the lid of of a Char-Broiler, as I had run out of good room in the regular garden . Now they are covered with at least six inches of soil, and in an area where frost goes down feet not inches, freezing SHOULD not be a problem but I am wonder if we get -30 or -40 below if that is freezing too hard as they are up in the air sitting on blocks?
