Does anyone have any suggestions for an early OP bicolor corn? Is there one?

There is only one commercially available OP bi-color sweet corn available that I know of, unfortunately it isn't early season at 80-100 days but here is the link: www.abundantlifeseeds.com/stores/1/Double_Standard_P291C15.cfmI've still got 2 years or so of developement on 3 new lines of OP sweet corn. One a double red, one a red and blue, and one a blue. -Alan

I found reference on another site to a Blue Jade and a Rainbow Inca. Both Sweet corn, but obviously, neither qualifies for the Bi-colour that you were searching for. Still, they sound interesting as an alternative to boring old yellow.

I will say this, if you want a good early OP sweet corn, with an interesting growth habbit and good taste, go for blue jade, I can't remember how many days it is, but it is terriffic. -Alan

I'll do a search and see if I can find it anywhere up here for next year.

Tomakers, I was offered seed for an OP bicolor while at a gardening seminar..It's an early variety as well.. Offered this year by Johnny's www.johnnyseeds.com/catalog/product.aspx?scommand=search&search=double&item=289GI'm hoping this is the answer to my problems with DH's intense dislike for the look of White Corn..and particularly, Country Gentleman's somewhat less-than-attractive shoepeg staggered 'row' structure... Oh wait, this is what Alan mentioned prior.. Sorry Alan, but I was all fired up after this seed swap/seminar thingie...And look, it's available at more than one seed company in the U.S. This is Great..

Rainbow Inca looks interesting and I would love to try it sometime myself. It's another one of Dr. Alan Kapulers creations.

Tom, I will be growing it this year. Might even get it in the ground today, as a matter of fact. Want to get my Sweet Potatoes planted first. Then work from there.. I'll make sure I post about it's progress. Actually, I'm planting the following 3 OP sweet corns this year: Double Std 73 DTM Golden Btm 80 DTM Stowells Evergreen 98 DTM I think I'll stagger the Double & Goldens planting a bit to make sure they have plenty of time to pollinate without crossing. I've also got Strawberry Popcorn and the Fiesta (hybrid) ornamental corn to figure in somewhere.

stupid raccons! Double standard is a pretty decent op corn from what I hear, unfortunately it's not very early season. I've got some germplasm i'm working with blue just specifically for my northern gardening friends such as yourself, with any luck in a year or two we will have either a yellow or bi-color 65-70 day, open pollinated sweet corn. Did you get to try any of the double standard? How was it?

Alan, we had about 6 weeks of dry spell. The Double STandard was stunted and late. I managed to get 13 ears. Most were bi-colour, but a few were still yellow. Honestly? DH took some to work for his supper and never got to eat it. But I managed to save 5 ears of bi-colour for seed corn the night before the coons had their corn roast!!! Then the night before last, they had a taste testing party in the Stowells Evergreen patch. I had old seed and poor germination. Basically all I was trying to do was grow out enough for seed. They didn't care for the skinny cobs they pulled down. We are hoping that they go raid someone else's patch long enough to give me some ears filled out enough for seed??!! I would trap them, but my cats are doing a good job of squirrel and chipmunk roundup out back. I don't want to interfere with that or bring harm to my little preggers kitty and her DH, so let the coons have what little bit of corn there is this year and we will worry about them in 2008 when we've got a much larger patch to prowl.

I don't find white corn attractive either. I love a nice bicolor the best.
