So New Years eve, Alan and I had ran to the grocery to get stuff for dinner. We were meandering around the organics section looking at juices and stuff and out of no where, these guy pops up from behind one of the shelves and says "Hey...you're that tomato guy from the farmers market..." and Alan of course says yes...The guy then runs back to the end of the aisle and yells at his wife..."I TOLD YOU IT WAS HIM HONEY!!! I TOLD YOU..." and then the couple procedes to tell us how they were looking forward to our tomatos and stuff this spring etc. It was just funny. Alan is becoming something of a celeberty in our community. He's referred to as the "Tomato Guy", "Worm Guy", "Weird Produce Guy"...Etc.

Funny. I went to my friend's CSA operation during their annual day, there were lots of clients eating cakes and cookies with them around a table, and when I arrived, that's exactly how she described me: a seed pusher Nothing wrong with that!

Rutgers is still a fairly reliable classic but may be a little on the small size. Seed is cheap, easy to grow and widely adapted. What was the one that we 'resurrected'...That one is a good producer too...Tastes really good. (my mom and sister loved it) and it produces about an 8oz red tomato.

Just in case: I am not sensitive to poison ivy, so I can't vouch personnaly, but the old farmers around here ( it's a common plant) get in a draining ditch or a creek and cover their affected body parts with wet mud. The soil is clayish. They let it dry on them. They all say it works very well. At the very least, I would do it before going to buy stuff, apparently timing is important, and we rarely carry it on us. Works...I will definately attest to that. Did it while working on our broken waterlines...found a clean mud hole and went to town.

And could these goobers please speak a full sentence WITH OUT bleeping or dawg this and that bs. Good lord...OH and what precious roll models we are allowing to influence the youth of our nation. Wanna be gang bangers, and girls dressed like street walkers. It must be a prerequisite that you have to be a man or woman h** to appear on one of these shows. And I bet the lot of them have about half brain all together.
GAHHHH...I guess these stupid channels are yet another way of lulling people into the "sheep" state...

My cousin the meteorlogist called a little bit ago. They are now calling for an inch of ice over night in our area, switching back to snow in the morning, with an addition accumulation of 3-5inches of snow on top of that. So...it may prove to be an interesting night after all...The lights flickered once here...about 2 hours ago. So I guess we'll see what happens. I didn't even try to go to work today. I figured if they closed both Kimballs plants then there was probably no reason for me to even attempt to get out. Tomorrow I'm scheduled off...so that saves me the pain in the ass of having to call and get ahold of a manager. And then have said manager feed me a line of bs that they need me sooooo bad etc. Right...I live a half an hour away from the store...surely to god you can find someone closer...lol!
How is everyone else fairing?

Kimikat, Here in Western Oregon we have to be careful about forest fires burning up poison oak. You breath in the smoke and get it in your lungs. I've never had it, but I hear it is a real pain. Pugs Uggh...I can imagine...I have an uncle who is that way when it comes to poison ivy...all he's got to do is smell the pollen. He turns into a giant oozing sore. I imagine that one would be absolutely miserable once it gets into their lungs...

I think I would hate not to be able to see the stars. But it would be nice to live where you could see the aurora borealis. In my almost 44 years, I have only seen that once here in southern Indiana. A few years ago, and it was incredible. That is, after we figured out what was happening. For a while there we thought we might be under attack of the Martians. LOL! I thought the same thing when I saw them...I was like 16 or 17, and vibrant red waves were floating across the sky. I ran inside freaking out...My Dad got a hoot outa that one.

This is just further proof that the biggest part of the human race remains unevolved. Just big dumb monkey's...
Speaking of lack of cleanlieness...how about those people who somehow...manage to crap ALL over a wall....when they sit down to take a healthy one in a public restroom and don't bother to tell anyone when that they had an accident when they leave...People are gross...

Shoot...when the PVP expires is the time to rescue that variety. Liberate those genetics... Return them to the home gardeners to do with as they please.
Although....expiration is not necessarily necessary either.

Yesterday's leftover chili tonight. Fiance teaches a night class, but I packed a big bowl for him to eat before class. Chile is great for weather like this! I used cannelinni beans instead of kidneys cause it's what I had. I agree...I made a big kettle of chili for supper tonight myself...It was pretty dang good too.lol!

Whats funny is Alan and I were going through a Seeds of Change Listing the other day...and I came across the herbs and after reading descriptions...I was like...We can use that...and that...and that.lol! I think for once I annoyed him about growing stuff. *Note to self...DO NOT interupt Scrubs with herbs...lol*
Isn't basil supposed to be an insect repelant?
Karen***you are absolutely right about being careful, as we never know what we're going to be allergic to until we come across it. Last summer I was helping my Dad fix a water line...had no idea that the muddy hole I had my naked feet in was full of poison ivy roots...Worst case I've EVER had...my feet oozed for about 3 weeks. Probably took so long to heal because I couldn't go bare foot at work...I was miserable.

Take care Johno...We've got a whale of a snow storm headed our way too...looking at a total of 10inches by wednesday afternoon. I know to most people 10 inches isn't much...But around here it will flat shut EVERYTHING down...At least until the highways are cleared. Then the bosses are threatening people to get them in to work.

I'm developing an ever growing interest in herbs...All varieties, medicinal, culinary...etc...For companion planting...and what not.
One of my ideas for this year is to create window box planters and plant culinary herbs various ones to sell at market. The medicinal and companion planting, is just something to fall in line with the sustainability thing. I know about culinary herbs, but medicinals I'm lacking.
If anyone can offer any good advice or links on the subject. I'd appreciate it.
