Let me guess. It's on the Political Board. There would be few arguments over there if that board was removed. But I suppose some people thrive on that crap.
Me? I'd rather chat about gardening and knitting.

steps up on soapbox...
yeah, i prefer the knitting and gardening stuff too, but the last 7 plus years have been very tough for America...and the world actually...with the bush administration. many many many people have suffered. lost their lives, incomes, homes, etc.... with this election coming up, people are fired up i guess, a lot for change, and, sadly, a lot for naught. hopefully in the next 48 hours something good will come out of it all...
jumps off soapbox...
so what are you knitting blue? i'm starting a pair of mittens, the pattern in the last Countryside magazine. i also want to start a pair of slippers that were in the same magazine last year... ;D

I get sucked into the politics at times, but when things turn scarily religious, I duck out quick! Scary. Besides, after I voted last week, I washed my hands of it. Tired of hearing about it.

There are quite a few nutjobs over on idig, as there are anywhere. Walt actually seems unbalanced sometimes, honestly. I'm sure he's a harmless old man, scouring the internets for half truths and quoting them like Bible verse. There are a few others over there that are just trolls. They (people like "Ted" come to mind) start threads and then just insult people who try to have a real discourse with them. Unfortunately, they are so minutely blessed in the intellect department, the discourse gets boring quickly. Their posse of playground bullies, like UK and Cliff, jump on board and insult some more. It's difficult to find words small enough for them to understand, but there you go! And when in doubt, they quote a Bible verse or a crackpot like Ann Coulter, and stop posting, as though those could possibly the answer.
In terms of the large picture, it doesn't really matter. No one is going to change another's mind as to the presidential election. I understand Lored's frustration in trying to have an intelligent conversation with someone, and being called a Nazi in return, or having someone continue to tell you that you haven't answered a question that you so clearly have, several times. But, the bar for what IQ level constitutes mental defect is quite low, and, unlike USDA zone, the mods at idig don't ask us to post it anyway! Therefore, it's very difficult to avoid the really dumb ones without first having entered into conversation.
Lored - I sympathize with your disgust in the recent threads. I did quite enjoy showing Ted what a moron he was, but I am an intelligence snob, after all. Walt just makes me sad, because he appears to be declining rapidly to a point where he will need to be institutionalized, and that will just play into his delusion that "they'll be coming to get him if Obama wins". No doubt they'll have to gag him when he goes, as he'll be yelling about the Nazis, and Muslims and whatever else.
In any case, keep the faith, vote however you want, and when it really bothers you, take a page out of BLRH's book, and avoid the politics forum!

Bunkie, I'm just making a throw for the couch. The old one has seen better days. Mittens and Slipper patterns in Countryside? It sounds like such a good magazine.

Well now, I hadn't been to Idig for a long time, but you made me look! Just wasted too much time reading that nonsense, and I have to say that it depresses me a bit. I don't want everyone to agree on everything, but some of those folks are truly out there. I think that poor Walt fellow honestly is on his way to insanity, and I don't say that sarcasticly, but in all seriousness. In the last few posts, someone calling themselves' Loves to garden' complains about Lored starting this thread here on homegrown! I guess that post will be deleted, since it seems any mention of this forum is prohibited. I honestly hope the crazies stay over there. It is generally such a friendly place here, with most people focused on a little thing called gardening. Funny how we think of gardeners as good people, sadly maybe it isn't always the case. Though I wonder how some of those people have any time for the garden when they must spend a good portion of their day on the computer. Must take a while to type all those bible verses...

Yeah, there are often idiggers lurking over here. Hopefully, they are learning something. I agree, though, that this is a much friendlier place.

Plantsnobin, most people there have post stamp gardens. 3 tomato plants and one row of leaf lettuce don't make a gardener

Since I don't go to the politics board, I have no idea who Ted is. Nor do I care. And if I want to read Bible quotes over and over, I have my own book. lol And they never really apply to the thread. Its like they open the book and point randomly. I always feel bad that GZ has to deal with all that crap all the time.

Bunkie,
Can you send me the instructions for the slippers?
Every year I give felted handbags for Christmas. Unfortunately my list keeps growing so I'm usually not finished til April.
I ran into a good sale on ribbon yarn at Joanne's so I'm making a lot of cable scarves.
I don't get to keep much because every time I make something cute, someone wants it. I only get to keep what my daughters call the "granny" stuff. ;D
I do try to stay out of the political stuff, but sometimes when you see something that is wrong, you have to speak up.

I came here from Idig. it is just I got really tired of the politics. And I am not american, so everytime I see the right wing go to bat, I get furious. They call anything socially responsible communism or socialism. The rest of the free world is also believing in free markets, but we ALL have a social net better than in the USA, ALL have a national health system , EVERYBODY is covered, and I do not know that England, Canada, Switzerland and the others are socialists countries. We feel insulted a bit by this diatribe. Even conservative people here and elsewhere are proud to have these systems, not to say they don't see ways to improve them. Health care is the best and most popular social measure all over. And America is having the MOST expensive health care in the world. My friend got sick there, He had insurance, but said he did not. For one of his interventions, the doctor said: the cost of the procedure is 3500$, but since you don't have insurance it will be 900$ for you. It took 5 minutes!! Free enterprise my ass. That is exploitation of the sick and dying, not of the insurance companies, that are in on it and charge accordingly. They make a percentage on everything, the bigger the better. Our doctors are paid way less than yours, but the average retirement nest egg for them is close to 3 million $ ( statistic of the canadian medical association) . Not exactly the ditch. And even the democrats in the USA are at the right of the conservatives elsewhere anyway. We get tired of hearing that social justice is communism, socialism or else. Mind you, the word socialism in an american mouth means something else than in an european one, for exemple. Elsewhere, it is not a plague like communism. Your far right is so ignorant, so narrow minded, they are an insult to the more conservative people of the other countries. And to the others of course. And now your banking system is the most socialist in the world ;D Funny, France did the same thing when I was young and they cried afoul!! Dear ol' George is in bed with ''Stalin''
