Here in north Florida I have planted maiz morado about three weeks earlier than normal.....of course it will probably be my luck that when it is about six inches high we will have a hard freeze....but I'd like to get ahead of the bugs....plus I'm impatient to start the season

Spring has come to the farm; today I saw the first lizard sunning itself.

Rained lightly through the morning, enough that the crew didn't show, although it had cleared by work-time. I'd take off to the farm, but I'm expecting a delivery that I have to sign for and it's time to send out the bills anyway. So much needs doing on the farm that time there is at a premium.

Snow fell before Halloween so walking under broken green leafed branches in the snow was unusual. Two dustings has been it for snow as most fell as rain this winter. Snow is covering the spruce as our snow starts. An open winter as we can see the ground. Last year we had snow fall in December and the ground was covered until March. The deer were hungry then.
It will be nice to read about Morado! Some food grain Einkorn arrived and a few will be sprouted in pots for an early transplant -it should be started in Fall. Snowdrops are showing flower buds.

Here's a neat one. Last night we had a thunderstorm. Complete with power outage, ground lightning, and hail. Pretty good for February, must have been the leap day. It might actually have been technically in March, it was midnightish.

Raining today; glad to have it. Steev, I'm glad for you. Here it is highs near 80F with south winds 15mph to 25 mph with gusts to 35mph drying out our already parched land. One lake about 30 miles north of Tulsa is 14 feet below normal levels. Praying for spring rains. I tell my wife that the Bible says it rains on the just and the unjust and I must fit in there somewhere so it has to rain someday. David

davida,
Sounds like our places are experiencing much the same weather, daunting, for sure. No matter what this Spring's rains turn out to be, I am tightening up my plantings by way of less haphazard mixing of more/less thirsty crops, so as to better be able to triage my irrigation when water is less than optimal.

We had a blizzard yesterday of really went snow. We now have about 8-10 inches and warm temps but it will take days to melt it all. I want to get my greenhouse up this month!
