Have I ever said how much I hate daylight savings time? A pox on whoever invented it. I hope they have 11 snotty grandchildren. It was a 12 hour day, racing against the rain. Attachments:

4 rows of broc, cauli and cabbage planted. Hey Ottawa, here's that Chinese cabbage you sent, looks beautiful. 1 row of cabbage harvested, asparagus harvested, tools put away and boy am I beat. It was a beautiful spring day, good weather to work in, about 65 degrees F with a light breeze. The clouds are rolling in. We hope for rain. Please. Attachments:

80 degrees F here on Saturday, Sweet corn, sunflowers and beans are popping up. Spent the morning changing oil in the chipper/shredder, lawn mower and tiller, then cleaning the chicken coop. Spent the afternoon working in the greenhouse and putting out more tomatoes and peppers.
Beautiful weather!!

It's officially spring! The robins have been trickling back for a while but to me they are not the sign. The sign is the red-winged blackbirds, which arrive all at once and can't be missed. Usually March 17th, so they are early. They must coast up on a warm front. Then there is usually a cold snap and they spend the next couple of weeks shivering in the bushes, singing "Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit." From the forecast it doesn't look like that will happen next time.
Amazing to think there was a foot of snow and it was -13°C at night last week... (Heading for 20°C in the daytime this week.)

61˚F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My bees are flying. Six days ago they started serious cleansing flights - lots of brown snow around the hive. If they get active before there's forage, they eat their honey supplies and run the risk of starving to death. This is very early. This is not good. Today, more housekeeping with dead bees being pushed out of the hive. But somewhere there is pollen because I saw two return with full pollen baskets - one with dark, dark yellow pollen and the other with a lighter yellow pollen. The pussy willows are barely open never mind flowering. I think someone must have crocuses in flower near a house foundation. Attachments:

Having been rained out of work today, I took the opportunity to haul a load of peeler poles to the farm; I'll use them in trellising for kiwis. I think the last 24 hours or so have seen about an inch of rain on the farm, according to my rain guage (the wheelbarrow); forecast is rain through Sunday; one can hope.

Still raining in Oakland; still a good thing. While at the farm yesterday, found that nearly all the leaves were gone from the peas I'd transplanted, but the plants were still there, so they may get ahead of the pest.

It rained sometime last night and this morning. We've had a steady lovely drizzle which is terrific because I have to go and pick for the CSA. I woke up and found that I'm a mommy. Look at my beautiful new chestnut! See what the rain brought! Steev, next year can I have kiwi cuttings? Please post photo of trellis when you get it done. I love rain. MikeH, my willows are catting. I wish your bees were here. Off to the farm. There's canning waiting and Welsh onions calling and chickens crowing. I'm a grandma. Hens are hatching wee ones! Attachments:
