...has someone copied their website before it becomes history? ...or is it already history? No, I grabbed the entire blog. If anyone wants a copy let me know. Continuing to share Dan's knowledge keeps him with us. Regards, Mike

Whoa! Just got back from the farm and that is one cold bucket of water. Dan had it right: you don't know when the music will end, so dance while you can. We've lost a great resource and a voice of reason.

Last year at this time I was new to this forum and very shy about asking for seed. But there were a couple of things I really wanted and couldn't find. I asked Dan and he quickly filled my request and sent along a few other seeds that he thought I should try. I never got to know him as well as many of you do but I know he was a fine and generous person. I had hoped to someday be able to help him with something but I will have to be content with following his example and paying it forward when I can. Rest in Peace Dan.

I heard about his passing on Facebook. I dont know if I have the postal address, would anyone mind sharing it here or PMing so I could send a card to Shaoling? I came a little late and just missed Val on the boards I read, it was too brief but lovely to know Dan and see his kind spirit. I have 2 beans and 2 brassicas from him- Ill make sure I share them far and wide. This makes me just a little sensitive about knowing where seeds come from and doing good by making sure they are shared. Ill do better this year. Rest in Peace Dan!

Mike how i cn have a copy of Da's blog? Hi Emanuele, This is the software that I use to grab websites - www.httrack.com/. I use the Linux version but I just installed the Windows version to see if it's the same. It is. It's free and does an excellent job. If you have problems, let me know and I'll send you a DVD. But this will be faster. Regards, Mike

I think it would be great if there was a new OP tomato variety named for Val & Dan. I think it would be a nice way of remembering them.

Death is a interesting thing. One of the very few guarantees in life. As a grower; in my mind, death is more of a completion of a cycle rather than "the end". We come from the union of 2 seed, we consume throughout the span of our lives, and when we die we return to nourish the earth which previously nourished us. The earth; in it's turn nourishes the next generation.
So, I hope you will all forgive for not saying "good-bye". Dan lives on in many hearts, minds, and gardens. Just as Our Val continues to live on. Perhaps more vividly than ever as the trees and plants they flung to the far corners of our earth are increasingly more firmly established. It is to be hoped that we may see fruit from the apricot and peach trees they originated in Canada way down south here in North Carrotlina.
Lynn, I love your idea about naming a tomato after Val & Dan. Pure Love? Sweet Perpetuity? Then, in the back of my mind I hear a male voice, perhaps Dan's, and it's saying, "Anything but V.D.!"

I think it would be great if there was a new OP tomato variety named for Val & Dan. I think it would be a nice way of remembering them. Absolutely brilliant. Name it Pay It Forward. (I did a quick search and there doesn't seem to be a variety with that name). Regards, Mike

Like many of you have already said the passing for Dan was a very sad day for everyone who knew him. I am Val's daughter and Dan's stepdaughter. I am glad to have had two great people in my life for as long as I did. They taught not only myself but my brothers to "pay it forward". You never know when your time will come so live as if every moment is your last and enjoy everyday your feet touch the right side of the ground. So too both my mom Val and my poppa Dan you will be greatly missed but never ever forgotten. I love and miss you both very much.
