I didn't know Dan very well and i knew Val even less, but from what i did know about them they seemed to be very nice people and unusually caring for the people around them. It's nice to see all the comments everyone has left for them, and gives you a sense of how active and important they were in everyones lives.

I haven't been on the forums much lately trying to get seeds planted ect so just read about Dan's passing. Him and Val were the best. I shared a few seeds with them and they sent me even more in return. Dan had a great outlook on life. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I have seeds for some of his varieties. I need to get them out and what I can't grow share with others like he would want. Jay

You can download Dan's website here. This isn't public to anyone on the web. Only those with the link can download. It's a 44 mB compressed file that uncompresses to around 77 mB.

If anyone has a soy bean from Dan's collection. Just a regular field soy that may or may not be named terminator protest soy, then I'd be happy to help grow it out again. Dan kindly agreed to keep it alive in his living seed back for me many years ago. I hope to increase some of the great seed Dan and Val shared with me so we can continue their work.

Wow! Talked to Dan a few weeks ago. He sent me Guido tomato seeds. They are growing now. Will think of him all summer as eat one of his favorite tomatoes. I am so sad and bummed out. I thought he was beating the cancer. I will miss Dan. And always remember to pay it forward. Gray

Just now got back on the board this week, and just now found this thread. Very sad news ... Dan (and Val) was very generous in sharing seeds with me. I have ... literally ... DOZENS of tomatoe varieties from the two of them. In light of this news, my growing plans have changed as I reshuffle growing space to allocate room for some of the varieties they sent me over the years.
Dan and Val were a very special couple. They revived within me the "fun" that had gone out of my gardening. Their inspiration (as well as seeds) led me to grow out over 300 tomato varieties (95 in one year!) over the past 5 years, both from their collection as well as from commercial sources.
Thanks, Dan (and Val) ... for making gardening fun again! We will miss you sorely.
Steve.

Only just caught up with this thread.
Rest in peace Grunt. Your peas are growing in the garden, their seeds will be saved and shared. You are missed.

God, what a tragedy. To me, Dan and Val were always very kind and generous. I'm still growing the Coastal Pride Orange seeds that he has supplied me with over the years and, in fact, have one in the greenhouse at this moment. Their passing is a great loss to the gardening community.

What a shock!!! I just got the news! Dan was a great guy! Selfless. Generous. Mentoring. Enthusiastic. Caring. Foresightfull. He sent me some seeds last summer, that, unfortunately, won't get planted until next year. I promise to "pay it forward" Dan!!!!
