Blue, I have a mailbox only 6 ft from the door. lol And there were 2 BC catalogs on the same day. So I prolly got yours too. I really don't like the shape, and I could do without all the HUGE pics of the kids. That's not what I'm shopping for. The DTM are way too long. The one or two items I saw from BC, I can get through Territorial this yr. And any squash I want, I'll get from sandhill.

I hate freaking glossy catalouges! Sure they look pretty and the pictures are nice, but when your done with them they are useless. They shouldn't be composted because of the chemicals and the worms can't eat them! I wish the companies would just send me newsprint rags! That would make things so much cleaner around here!

I like the Sandhill catalog. No pics, but lots more actual info on the varieties. The poultry descriptions are awesome too.

I think that once a company selling veggies goes to shiny & pretty, you can forget them. Now, I know there are people who will say that 'new' gardeners need pretty pictures to get them interested, but it really boils down to 'dumbing down'. We have enough of that in the world already. Not to discourage new folks from growing anything, but how many times does anything look like a picture in the catalog? Reliable info is what is needed.

I bought lettuce seeds one time because the catalogue said they were for warm climates, but when I got them, the package said they were for cold climates! Big problem here in Arkansas when you're trying to grow lettuce in a...oh...maybe...two day-long spring that's just barely cool enough as it is.

I dunno, I just got the BC catalogue today, and I thought it was pretty sweet. I'm a sucker for those pretty shiny pictures of things that I know I can't grow in my climate, but will probably try anyway. And I save my seed catalogues for 'reference' (hubby calls it packratitis).
I also know my mother-in-law, who is a grade school teacher, will try to steal it at the March Break if she sees it, cause those are great pictures that she can show her students when she is teaching the science/wherever growing stuff categories. She takes all my old garden mags, and covets my seed catalogues.
I like my catalogues, and would rather not give them up, for the online version or the compostable version.

I'm going to BC in a little over a week. It'd be nice to have a printed catalog in hand for a few days before I go. But I see how it is - the Canadians get theirs first...
I hear thet've done lots of renovating in Mayberry.

Ah, Johno, I cheat. My parents have a mailbox in Sault, Michigan, so I get US things sent there, and Mom forwards it to me when she sends me or the kids stuff. Canadians have to buy the BC Catalogue if we want it.

One of the most amazing catalogues is the one by Gerhard Bohl, Germany, he lists 2500 (no, I didn't mistype, two thousand five hundred) varieties of tomatoes, 470 peppers, 700 beans, hundreds of squash, hundreds of melons, a good section on lesser known things, and so on. He's a bit of a SSE on his own...Just received it, sadly enough for most of you, only in German...

orflo can you post a link to his catalog? My German is so rusty I'm having trouble navigating his site.

No, he has no internet address, even no e-mail address, due to high costs he's distributing the catalogue (which was 400 pages) as a 'stick' this year. I could write his address, but it costs about 10 dollar for a catalogue, I think
