To start, my name is Dan (married to my lovely wife Nikki). We just took up gardening last year, and have slowly expanded thanks impart to my brother (some of you may know him, goes by the name of "Jim" on this forum board).
We're big into cucumbers (already have 4 jars of pickles made this year), along with peppers (all varieties), spinach, oinions, tomatoes, etc.
Next year Jim is going to help me build some vertical growing solutions for our peppers, since our space is extremely limited.
I'll try to get some pictures online of how we are doing so far, and look forward to trying recipes and tips from this board. Jim speaks very highly of many people here (don't tell him I said so!).

OOh! Increased membership through nepotism! The Italian blood in me is SO impressed! ;D
Welcome to both you and Nikki, and congrats on canning some harvest already.

What's funny is our mother thinks it hilarious that we both are into gardening. We are 2nd generation off the Polish farm...but our ancestors call to us to get back to the land. For me it just feels right.

Hi Dan , Welcome to the forum.
dan, Jimmy wifes family is also polish. Her dad moved here married another polish girl whose family had moved from poland to brazil, then to america, My wifes grandma followed. She has been here 20 years, and refuses to learn english. They owned a farm as well grew everything the ate, and earned in life. Great lady, I actually lived with her for a couple months. She still gardens now. Makes perogies of every type for everyone. and kapusta, and gwomkies, I probably spelled those wrong, but we ate well when we lived with her. Although things like stale bread or crackers were still part of the meal. She would make fun of me for wanting to eat only fresh food. great culture

Big welcome! I'm sure you'll find lots of support for all your gardening needs here.
I sometimes wonder about the green thumb being inherited. My grandfather was a big gardener and his father was the gardener for an estate and on and on and on.
The mint that grows rampand in my garden is from an estate garden somewhere in England, taken home by one my relatives to their cottage.

Thanks for the offer! I am mostly interested in peppers and cucumbers (for pickling). All my peppers have either come from store bought seed or Jim. (Posted some pictures in a thread yesterday).
I'm planning a much larger variety of peppers next year. If anyone has any "must grow" peppers, i'd appreciate any advice. I pretty much have just looked at all the magazines and websites Jim has given me to gain ideas.

Dan, American Gardener has a huge collection of peppers and cukes. I'm sure he'll hook you up.

that'd be killer! for the small space we have, we're sure producing our fair share of pickling cucumbers as is. Next year we'll switch from 50/50 pickling/slicing to probably 90/10.
Like I said, I love peppers and definitely wish to make that a passion of mine. I hope to have many varieties growing one day, and sure I will (potentially at the next house).
