The groundhog in PA predicted 6 more weeks of winter-what a big surprise. I am going to start eggplant and peppers in mid Feb. I always start maters too early. lol I will start them 2nd week of March. Maybe on the 13th- its my bday.

Yes, and I already have it marked on my calendar, unlike last year. I'd hate to send you something you didn't like. Would you like some seeds??? LOLOL

hey blue. Speaking of plant starting, I went to Ritchie feed and seed in Ottawa today, and the italian seed company, Bavvichi is now selling mycelium of 5 or 6 mushroom varieties at 9.99$, which is dirt cheap. I am telling you that because I think I read a post sometime ago where you had a question about growing mushrooms. If its not you then,...you now know anyway... It is way cheaper than what we can get on the net. And it is an excellent company, I've bought their seeds from the states in the past. Now Ritchie carries a rack of them. You get more than 5 times the amount of seeds from McKenzie's for $1.89....

Mike, I don't recall asking about mushrooms, other than maybe just for curiosity sake? I doubt if I would ever bother to grow them at home? But thanks for the info.
I've never been to Ritchie's. I know where the store is at 7 & 417, but I'm so seldom up that way, and they are usually closed when I am passing through. Maybe sometime I will stop and take a look at what all they sell.

I'll be starting some seeds in the greenhouse come Febuary 14'th, my annual day for starting peppers, eggplants, cabbage, kale, collards, and lettuces and from there on out I'll be busy, busy, busy for the year. I'll probably also be potting up tomatoes for the other greenhouse sometime around that point in time as I am hoping the new greenhouse will be up and done by this coming weekend. That is if all of this bronchitus crap goes away by then, luckily I'm finally starting to feel a little better!
Man I've got that springtime itch again!

Counting on it and hoping so! I absolutely love what I do and to be honest with you, doing that kind of hard work and sharing it with customers and friends during a hot summers day, is in my opinion, the very best feeling in the world! Oh, and I can't stand winter, I know I'm supposed to re-charge my batteries during winter but it honestly feels more like draining my batteries cause i'm always getting sick and bored.

I saw my first robin on Sunday and it gave me hope. I started a while back but look forward to starting more ( I have limited lights for seedlings). What's the radio man reference?

Well, we got a half an inch of ice today! I spent a good portion of my day keeping the ice buildup off of the greenhouses, particularly the new one which doesn't yet have electricity and as such has no heat. It was getting thick for a while! Anyhow, I also spent the day finishing up some small touches on the new greenhouse and cleaning up the older one and getting it set up to start plants. Tomarrow morning, the day of my birthday, will officially be my first day of spring (spring starts for me the minuite the first seeds are sown in the greenhouse). I will be starting collards, kales, cabbages, lettuces, peppers, eggplants and some tobaccos tomarrow morning bright and early. I can hardly wait! It just means I'm getting that much closer to spring, selling produce, looking at the great diversity of the farm, making some money, puting smiles on my customers faces, processing stuff for home use, homegrown sweet corn and grilled chicken! And saving seed for distribution to all of my wonderful friends here! Oh yeah, and who can forget, making new crosses of plants, selections of which, and the new honey bees, and ginseng hunting, and so on, and so on, and so on!
