We have started onions and leeks and 200 heads of lettuce but won't start the tomatoes until early April. Peppers will be started in 2 weeks, eggplant 3 to 4 weeks and the tomatoes in another 6 to 8 weeks.
Since we plant through landscape mulch we do not want big tomato seedlings-so I like to give them no more than 5 weeks in soil blocks. That just makes life easier on everyone.
Soon enough (like in 10 to 14 days) we should have lots of onion, leek, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, kale, chard and other cool weather lovin' seedlings going. Don't need to jump the gun on maters.

I started my new "Easter Everywhere" bell pepper mix last night. A mix of about 40 or so bell peppers in all manner of colors. I started about 800 seeds of that mix. Today I'll be starting cabbage, kales, collards, and maybe some eggplant.

Right now I've started dwarf blue scotch, dwarf red. siberian red, red ulsra, and a couple others I can't think of the names of off of the top of my head, I believe they were bred by Alan Kapuler and I got them from Sow Organic. Plus there is a Kale mix that Ken Ettlinger sent me and some material that I got from the ARS GRIN system that needs to be evaluated and grown for seed.
All kinds of them really!

What's the radio man reference? House, I work for a Country radio station in Bowling Green, KY... That's where the "Radio Man" thing came from I was wondering when someone would ask about that . Listen online sometime @ www.wggc.com.

I was going to ask and kept forgetting. I'll check it out though tomarrow for sure friend.
Kim and I started about 1,500 cabbage plants and about 500 collards last night.
Once those germinate then it on to......you guessed it....more cabbage! We sell a ton of cabbage as transplant and I also plant about 2,000 heads or so myself.

nahhh, we don't pickle the cabbage, though my mom does make kraut, which I despise. Why ruin a good cabbage. We eat a lot of boiled cabbage and I sell a ton of it to people for kraut and fresh eating. I also like to eat the very firm leaf varieties (early jersey, golden acre, red acre) raw with peanut butter. I know I'm strange, but give it a go, it's better than ya think!

Mix that raw cabbage and peanut butter with a meal of beer and eggs and you've got an alternative source of energy brewing.
