I'm curious when you all will start your tomato seedlings. Please include your zone.

I'm supposed to start them early April, but sometimes I'm bad, and just can't wait so I'll start in March. I'm lucky though, because I have huge bay windows where my greenhouse shelves go, so they get a lot of sun during the day, and I have additional shop lights that I hang up. Usually by sometime in early May, they start going outside during the day, for some real sun and wind. I just love carrying all those trays in and out, in and out. The things I do sometimes! I don't know what it is about starting seeds, I just love doing it!
I'm in Zone 5a (zone 4 USDA, I believe). Last frost date is somewhere in the beginning of June, but I usually plant out for the May 24 weekend, and then run around with sheets etc at night when the forecast is for frost. Yes, my neighbors think I'm crazy. I probably am.

I'll start eggplant about Valentines Day. Peppers at about the same time, or maybe the following week. I'll start my tomato seedlings on March 1st.

Too early, LOL Brought home a bag of starter mix tonight. What WAS I thinking?? We haven't even heard from the GroundHogs yet!!! I always start them in midFebruary, just cuz I'm wishful thinking. I don't remember how many times I had to repot last year?? Gives me something to do and keeps me out of trouble, right?

I bought some mix at the end of summer so I'd be ready to go! I will be starting within the next few weeks.

Just make sure Appalachian State stays out of your ROSE garden as they would stomp your seeds and not allow them to emerge. JK

Peppers - Mar. 1-ish Tomatoes - Mar. 15-ish
Time: When I'm awake ...
Ususally, I do them on whatever Saturday is close to my target dates so that my FIL can come over and help. He's not in the best of health anymore, but the "farm boy" in him still likes to dig in the dirt and we get some quality time together. We'll do some winter sowing next Saturday.

blue: Here the groundhogs have two+ feet of snow to get through. I don't think we'll be hearing from them this year. Grungy has already answered that she starts them last week of March. What she didn't mention, is that I'm getting so antsy that I rammed a pathway down to the top of the orchard with the snowblower, through that same two feet of snow, to do some lay out planning. Who's getting anxious? Not me.

(geez)
I'll prolly get up around 7:30am, have some coffee and cheerios, read a little of the paper, so.....uuuuh...9:00am sounds like a reasonable ETS (Estimated Time of Sowing). If it snows overnight I'll make it 10:00 am cuz I'll prolly shovel first.
Honestly tho, I can hardly wait. Gardening started as a buy-a-few-seedlings-for-fun thing 16 years ago to a year round planning-sowing-growing-canning/freezing/eating-cleanup cycle that I work on every day in some form or another.
It's a sickness....
