I finally got over my chest cold and now I've got a horrible sinus infection which is no fun at all. I went to the doctor yesterday and he gave me som anti-biotics which I have been taking, but for future references do you have any cure alls or suggestions?

Alan - the following herbs are good for sinus infections...
Licorice (good for the inflamation) Eucalyptus (clears passages) Ginger (for the headache you get with the infection) Lemon Balm (good for it's anti-bacterial properties) Echinacea (better taken as you are just noticing the first symptoms, not after the infection has really taken hold)
Good luck, and try not to look down too often! ( I know that always kills me when I have a sinus issue)

I feel for you Alan. I've had one that instigated an occular migrain yesterday (when you go blind). That was lotsa fun. Like Lav said, I use fresh ginger in a tea with lemon, and that seems to help . Have you ever tried one of those little pot things, when you pour water up your nose and it cleans you out? I can't think of what it is called...

I take Echinacea ever day, but have not tried the Ginger Tea and lemon which I will give a go tomarrow, maybe that will make me feel better, I think I might just sleep tomarrow away!
The Dr. seems to think the reason I get such bad sinus infections in the winter is from the dry heat of the electric heating in our house and thinks that a humidifier might help, so I bought one today and thought I would give it a whirl. I do feel a little better after a couple of anti-biotics, but not much.

Does your new humidifier have a place where you can add stuff? (Some have a compartment where you can put vicks vaporub, for example). If so, you could add your own concoction of stuff. I agree with the eucalyptus... plus add some lavender, for calming effect. If it doesn't, be careful adding anything. You don't want to clog up the machine!

If you tend to have that often, here is a trick used by most of the jazzmen I used to work with, the trumpet and sax players...
Every day the put some warm water in their hands and ''breathe it '' through the nose, on each side. It helps them clear their sinuses, and as you know they badly need to breathe through the nose when playing.
It is a bit rough, but gets easier and easier with practice.

Paintman says to put your jammies on, Down the bottle of Whiskey that Down suggested, climb inside a 4 lb sleeping bag that's been placed in your bed and sweat it out. He says you'll cure yourself overnight no problem!
So why is it then that he just lies on the couch and complains when he's sick if he has such a surefire remedy?? LOL

Vitamin C. Start yourself at 8 grams, keep increasing by one daily till you get diarrhea, then back down 1 gram. That does seem like a lot of pills to take. I only take it when I feel a cold or something coming on. FYI: to get 10 grams of vit. C, you'd have to eat 16 oranges per day. Space the tablet out over the day, don't take them all at once. Chewable ones are a little easier to take.
