MISSON ACCOMPLISHED!!! Just got all the peaches picked off our dwarf tree before sunrise and the onslaught of yellow jackets (Got involved in a nest night before last and have a HUGE lower right arm and hand to show for it! They're lousy this year!)!!! The tree is spreading its branches up now with a big sigh of relief...I see homemade peach ice cream in our near future... Peach crop 2013... 4 buckets of peaches total! So many fruits for such a little tree... Peach tree breathing sigh of relief...

When my peaches are ripening, the birds start pecking; once they have, the bees and wasps move in; it's a learning experience to get a feel for when to "let that peach alone" lest I squeeze a critter that will take it badly.

A quick little update as things are buzy here. Bracing for a big storm coming in tonight. It'll be a great relief after being in the 90's for weeks now...not our usual! Even our 90 plus year old apple and pear trees are struggling, but loaded with fruit! Tried something new this year and that was planting seed in August, radishes, turnips, carrots, etc... Awesome success!!! I wonder why we haven't been doing this before?! Pics aren't really good this time...have to work on distance... Picking turnips planted in August, and summer squash, and taters, and HOLLY's beans finally started producing!!! Picking loads now... the other day we just got home from town and hubs had to get the tractor going and chance the neighbor's long horns out of our backyard...they tore the fence down in a couple of places...note, the apple tree is loaded... finally we have some friends helping us cut/prune the willow trees in the duck pond area...here's what they've done so far, we're cutting them down to a size we can keep them trimmed at...lots of branches to 'create' with... and, sammy, (Pete's on a sabbatical), watching a praying mantis on the screen door...

It's an old 80 plus year old variety. This one is tart and early, an excellent pie apple!

Bunkie, it sounds yummy. I have to drive to the coast and buy apples from Watsonville. After spending all that money at Wagon Wheel and getting robbed, I still have no apples and no trees. Bad seed is a robbery of the worst kind: for your pocket-book not only suffers by it, but your preparations are lost and a season passes away unimproved. (George Washington)

George didn't lie.
On the other hand, Samuel Clemens (AKA Mark Twain), wrote an essay noting the decline of the art of lying (he certainly couldn't have imagined how great a resurgence it has seen currently) in which he noted George Washington's famous inability to lie being piously upheld as an example of moral superiority being a great error. As Sam Clemens put it, "I can lie, but I don't!". That's moral behavior: free will versus incapacity or compulsion.

Wow, a praying mantis! Haven't seen one of those in forever! Must be all of the roundup they've been spraying lately. Looks like your getting a good harvest so far Bunkie! We had goose for Thanksgiving. Not the best, I prefer duck. Although it did come with a lifetime supply of tooth floss!
