My name is Gary, live in zone 6a southeast missouri, we have been organic farmers for 40+ years and are retired from our day jobs and now grow for ourselves and farmers market. I found this forum because of the Illiniwek red seeded watermelon i'm growing this year,

I've not been here in quite a while. Lots happened in my life in the last 3 years. Presently I'm thinking of starting some aquaponics......

Hello, Just found this forum and find it very helpful! We bought a 5 acre, 100 year old farmstead in North Central Iowa and started the task of restoration. I am a historical reenactor/tradesman and specialize in pre-1870 Tinsmithing and like to do things traditionally. Like many of our ancestors , it was a rough start, golfball sized hail wiped out everything and we had $60,000 in damage the first Summer! We have repaired the damage and planted a garden, mostly heirloom varieties, following a visit to Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, IA. We are having a drought right now but the garden is doing well with additional watering. I have much to learn here as I grew up in a city and most of my adult life was spent relocating in the military.
