That is truly beautiful popcorn cortona. Holly, you did better than I did. Either didn't sign up for her email notification in time or she never mailed me or if she did it was lost in the interwebs. I am really hoping to get my hands on some magic manna. If I have to I will dig the colors out of painted mountain myself to cross with Tuscarora but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if Carol has already done so much of the rougeing out of off type colors.
probably the last update of the season, that is some photos:
that is a photo of the kernels i've selected for the next year sown
a close up of the colors
the withe ones that are the base of the mix
the first add for the net season: painted mountain
a sample of flour corn that a friend send me simply labeled speckledthat i like a lot
first add from grinn
second one
3rd one
a sample of flour corn from central america that a friend give me(the kernels are realy huge and soft) so at sowyng time i wil mix the additions to my selection but i think that i have more seeds that i can sow so if somebody are interested in joining my progect i can share seeds! best wishes to all!
in order to continue the progect i've sowed my corn earlyer tan the past year to use the most part i can of the natural water, i've planted it 1 month and alf tan the others here sow corn, to see some germination i've waited the rain that blessed us some time ago,but at now wen the others have sowed corn the past week i've my corn sowed and sprouted, now we have a late cold spell but all the plantlets are looking ok, i've recived some other corn germoplasm from around the word but as ever i'm interested in new line to add, and i've remained some seeds to share , thanks to Joseph for is painted mountain selection, thanks to Raymondo for is corn, thanks to Nut, and Holly thanks to you all!, i will add photos as the season go if people that have recived my seeds can show here the result of my seeds i'm very gratefull! best wishes Emanuele
wel, i'm surprised at least today walking in the middle of my corn patch i've noticed that a part of my cern are tasselling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no sign of ears at today but...it is freakilish hearly for me, that is good! we have a fresh spring here and lots of rain and this plants that are no more hig tan two feet are tasseling, fantastic!i suppose it can be or the painted mountaingermoplasm i've recived from Joseph or some papago hibrid.....greath thanks to all that send me precius germoplasm, the other plants too are growing well but no sign of tasselling, we will see wath happens! thanks to you all my friend! ps the one that are tasselling are al single stalk!
i've had one of the dryest/hottest summer i can remember in my life and that challenge a lot my corn plants, the hearliest one manage to produce some cobs but the biggest part of wath i've planted have no possibility to produce anithyng.... i've harvested the hearliest twenty hears(most of it are little but some are good hears; almost alf are clearly from the past years blod lines and some come from new germoplasm that come from joseph and one variety from grin)i have at least other 10/20 ears left on the patch to dry complitely but this year results are a bit disappointing, two little plants that produce ears are from painted mountain seeds i think and show the purple foliage/purple/red tassel purple kernels and i like it a lot if somebody want to help i'm gratefull if a gentle fellow grow the seeds of it in isolation and select for this trait and return me some seeds i will post photos of the hears wen i find the darn charger of my camera!
There is a positive side to it. Hot and dry is what you are selecting for. It's just a pity that the summer was so harsh in the early stages of your project. Let me know if you'd like some more of the white corns I sent you for next season.
