Sorry I somehow missed this post.
My opinion/review of the movie: Rating: B+
I thought the movie was very, very, good, not great but very good. A lot of people were worried about the no name actors, the new Alien Reproductive system, and the setting once again being on earth. All things which I knew in the hands of the right directors wouldn't matter anyhow.
The reproductive cycle actually worked really well and there was a certain scene involving the predalien, some chestbursers (slightly modified to "gut bursters) and a pregnant woman that while being really disgusting and morally questionable worked really well in this movie and cause some people to either get visably sick and our leave the theatre, which is always a plus in an Alien film. What did they expect, Care Bears Vs. Smurfs?
The acting wasn't bad and for such a short movie you still get some nice character development, particularly from Dallas, Ricky, and Sheriff Morales. The only down sides to the acting were the two children in the movie, which is excusable because after all they are children. The two glaring things about their acting are that the little boy, after being facehugged, wakes up and watches as his dad gets chestbursted and litterally says and does NOTHING untill he gets ready to be bursted and literally only coughs! It's a chestburster people, your going to do a lot more than cough! The little girls one or two lines of dialog that stick out as bad revolve first around her father being attacked and killed by an Alien and never once questioning her mother with "what happened to daddy?" and at the end of the movie, no joke, asking her mother, dry eyed and all "are the monsters gone?". LAME.
The creature desighn was overall very good and in my opinion ADI's best work yet. The predator was to put it mildly, BAD ASS, and an even uglier Mo-fo than in Predator 1 and 2, with some definite characterization, Ian white playing the predator in this movie is the closest thing that we will ever get to Kevin Peter Hall (R.I.P.) The Aliens look good and the movements look great, the return to Camerons Ridged head design from "Aliens" was a welcome change, exspecially for folks who liked the comics where the ridged head was more common. The only creature complaints that I have are that the chestbursters (with the exception of the pred-alien) look like the same stupid puppets they have been using since Aliens, there has really only been one great chestburster and that was in Alien almost 29 years ago, is it really that hard to re-create something almost 30 years old?
A lot of Alien fan boys complain about the "Wolf" predator "owning" (a word I hate) the Aliens too easily, While he does kick some serious Alien but in this movie he gets it handed to him a couple of times by a normal alien and quite a bit by the pred-alien which at times seems to confuse the "Wolf" prdator, maybe he has never encountered one before?
I think the setting in small town Colorado actually works rather well and allows a lot of realism that sci-fi fans usually don't like. I hear a lot of folks complain about the said scenes of pregnant weomen being chest bursted as well as one of the main characters being a Pizza guy, but the problem with their logic is that if these things did exist and they made it to earth, no pregnant woman, baby, or pizza man is going to be ignored or overlooked, afterall the Alien species are equally opporotunity breeders/Killers.
If one pays close attention to detail they can see that the Strause brothers have paid great homage to the past films in lines of dialog (oh yeah, I forgot, one other line of dialog that didn't work in this one was "Get to the chopper", which only works if you are Arny and no one has any clue what you just said) as well as scene set ups and pacing.
All in all it was a good movie, well worth the money to see, and 10X better than the first AVP (this is the last time I will acknowledge that films existence). It is what it is for a VS. movie and was pulled off with great respect to the former films and the great shoulders it stands on. Two minor complaints are the ending, which was spoiled by t.v. spots and trailers and is to "Resident Evil" for my tastes and the running time which is really short, though as Colin Strause recently said "The movie is as long as it needs to be to do what it needs to do.". I do believe that a lot of folks will really like this movie and that there is a good possiblity of it doing well in theatres and paving the way for a third sequal which is set in space, with a GOOD script writer and with the Brothers Stause helming the dual directors chairs again!

It was definately shocking, and I would have liked to see a LITTLE bit more story behind the human characters. But the end result is EXACTLY what one would, or should think would happen if that situation were to actually happen.
