Unlike other forums, I think that there is something to be learned everywhere you go. I also think that in the case of 'moderating', most threads and topics are self-moderating; ie they will die off when all have had their say. To artificially end the discussion based on some arbitrary rule, guideline, or off-the-cuff whim of the moderator does nothing more than leave the matter unfinished, and that tends to cause it to spill over into other forums (as we have all seen happen already).
As far as an administrator of a system saying that he cannot tell what other people are communicating to each other on HIS system is naive and ignorant. People who believe that are either too trusting or also naive (but in an innocent way). Anyone with 20 minutes to spare can set up a demo account on the manufacturer's web site and see what a forum administrator has access to, whether it's raw data extracted from the database, or through a web interface to that database. Anyone who is interested can PM me and I will give them more information offline.
I also think that for a person to use his forums to promote his business, while masquerading as a general service to the public does a disservice to his customer base. Hehe, in one person's instance, I can tell you up front that it has already lost him several customers. Maybe $100 here or $200 there isn't a big deal, and if not, that's HIS business.

Alan,
Congrats on this wonderful site and super people. I've been most active aat Tomatoland but usuaally read and lurk here a lot.
I'm going to try and contribute more here on my spudleaf knowledge and general tomato know-how gained in 62 years of " moving the dirt". Anyone is free to ask questions and newbies and experts can pick my brains !!!

Cliff I can usually deal with, but WU drives me insane, and mrtom does too. (I do know you were kidding MH!) BUT, that being said, you can invite him if you like. But tell him to lay off the freaking Clintons, please!  And leave the whole "illegals stole my job" rant at the door, too.

I knew you were kidding, MH - I just poorly worded my answer there... what I meant was, Clarkbar can invite MrTE if he wants, but to leave the BS at the door. How a guy who works under the table himself can whine about illegals stealing his job is beyond me...
