Thats a long time holly.
That wee bush above hopefully could turn out to be a really good producer flowers.
I'm realy pleased i started grow feijoa's from seed because last winter we had a -14Cdeg frost which killed all my bought grafted bushes where all the seed grown ones came through it with flying colours, the leafs didn't even change colour. Plans are to grow truck loads more and to select from the best suited to this climate.

Gives me hope! My five year old bush has been covered in flowers every year, but despite the supplier's claim it is 'self fertile' I haven't seen even an embryo fruit on it. I decided I needed something to pollinate it so accordingly I grabbed some new seed in a botanic garden in northern Spain where there were some trees fruiting in 2011 and now have some good sized bushes. Your experience encourages me that this might be earlier than I had hoped! Any idea what dastardly things you did to that tiny seedling to force the little thing into flowering so young?
On a technical point, I've had this happen with a citrus (I think it was a grapefruit seed) which flowered once at around the same size, but never since. Can Feijoa seed perhaps produce a clone from the seed coat, in the same way that certain citrus can do and could this be an explanation for abnormal premature flowering?

Once you have a few different seedlings, take cuttings from the small shoots around the base of the plants. They root enormously easily. This should help you build up a group of plants for pollination later.

Not all named varieties are grafted. I had a flower of one of mine some month after buying it. We didn't let the fruit properly ripen because of the birds. I have some unnamed they flowered after 3 years but only sparely. They like a lot of muck.

If you get lots of flowers, but no fruit, it's not a total loss; the petals are tasty and pretty in a salad.
