Update: Without any other brassicas in full bloom, and no sign of bees around (it's winter down here), I was afraid that the broccoli x napus kale hybrid wont set any seeds so I bud pollinated the nice one to itself and the selfing took. After about 20 pollinations, I stopped. Now I notice that every single flower has developed a seedpod even the ones I did not touch.
Found out later that blowflies were pollinating them.

The seed pods can develop perfectly without having good seeds, I've had that before... This year a perennial Daubenton variegata flowered, and I tried to cross it in with Rusian kale, but all pods were empty, except for a few that probably got pollinated by the only other brassica flowering at that time, early purple stprouting...I hope you're lucky with this cross! |
