West coast of Canada, I am not the only one who tilled her gardens and mowed the lawns yesterday . Lots of farmers out tilling this morning too.

It's going to go up above 0C today: I'm going out in a Tshirt.

I hear you, Ottawagardener. The temperature has risen above freezing during the day for almost a week straight here. I'm starting to see features of the landscape I haven't seen in months! And colors! (As in, colors not = white.)

Those of you in NorCal can thank me if it rains tomorrow; I've done my best to insure it by last week having arranged for delivery of 10 yards of compost/soil to a job-site up on the exposed hills in El Cerrito; I just hope it holds off until ~4PM, so we can get that off the street and be going home, then it can pour, please.

This will be our third or fourth day in or close to the 50s. Rained 24 hours straight and snow is all gone except for the dirty piles here and there. Isn't raining now but supposed to off an on today. To messy to work in the ground but I can bring in my supplies to build my new cold frames.

We went from twenty degrees below the norm to twenty degrees above.
Depending on how deep the snow-less frost went, spring is starting to roll in.
I was reading in the seed catalog I just got that we have been pretty fortunate this year. Last year in Iowa one hundred and fifty miles South of me, they had water pipes six feet down freeze solid for the first time ever in multiple locals.
We shall see.

A freeze 6' down? That's pretty extreme, although apparently not unheard of in the past either (I've looked at charts for how deep foundations need to be laid in the upper midwest...wow.)

The auto-ventilation opened on the greenhouse today. It's the first time I've seen it open since fall.
Crocus, and violets are flowering. The neighbors apricot tree is flowering. Mine's a week to ten days later. I'm harvesting Egyptian onions for eating.

Rain and rain and rain. If the last couple days could be saved up to use in July and August it would be wonderful. Our crocus also blooming. Bleeding heart plants poking up as are peonies, lilacs getting big buds, plums almost in bloom. Horseradish and rhubarb looking good.
Set the orchids out in the rain, nothing perks up a wood stove withered orchid like a few hours in real rain.
Started broccoli and cabbage on the heat pad. They will move out to the cold frame as soon as they come up. TPS goes in today directly to another cold frame, it will be left open while sunny to keep them cool. More will go directly to the ground as soon as it dries enough.

That was really quick, reed ! I think our plants are tired of winter too! Green shoots and swelling buds are replacing snow and ice here as well.

I think some things were starting to look for daylight before that nasty cold spell. The foot of snow that came before the -15 saved them. The tops are burned off the crocus leaves but the blooms are OK.

It's 87 degrees! It's only March. The wisteria is blooming. Actually, everything is blooming, except me. I'm wilted. Mow, compost, plant, weed, repeat. Beat!

The wisteria is blooming. Thank you Holly!!! If there is one plant in the whole world that I absolutely adore, it is Wisteria.

Needs pruning.

How beautiful! I love wisteria too, no matter how invasive it may be.
Nothing like that around here though, for sure. Ground still covered in snow. Dirty snow. Even after two days of rain. The only hint of spring a a couple of brave alliums (garlic tips? Annoying invasive flowers that self sow promiscuously and I can't get rid of?) valiantly poking up above the ground. Nighttime low was 19F last night.
Haven't gotten out to prune the sour cherries or peach trees yet. Haven't even started tomato plants yet, because every time I go out to score some potting soil the stores are closed! (Refuse to go to Home Despot, but I may give in...I know they'll have what I'm looking for, and I know they'll be open. Argggghhh.)
