This year I'm growing: Patio pickles Poona Khera Amernian cuke Mexican mini sour cukes mini whites couple standard green kinds
I'm hoping one of two things happen. I either get motivated to learn to make pickles or friends and family develop a huge lovin for cukes.

Even though they aren't technically a cucumber the Armenian cukes are great! Another one I would add to your list is the old standard straight 8, another terrific cuke. Mini-White and white beauty are terrific too!

I grew Orient Express (1 1/2" thick 8" long cukes) and they were really good tasting. I think there's an OP similar to it ... Japanese Long. Bought some seed, but didn't get it in the ground last year.
Need grown on a trellis, though, for nice straight cukes. Otherwise, they'll grow in weird shapes ... don't ask me how I know ... should have taken a picture of the corkscrew-shaped one ...

This year, I'll grow:
IMPROVED LONG GREEN MINCU BOOTBHBY'S BLONDE MASS CROSS X BEIT ALPHA X NATIONAL PICKLING MEZZO LUONGO (WHITE) WHITE WONDER AKA LONG WHITE EPHRAIM HALL white from Manitoba, so early and cold tolerant A russian one with a headache giving name from Andre Baranovsky through Rena , this summer, his temporary name is WHATEVER
I second the recommendation on straight 8, I think I'll get this one too
Straight 8 and Improved Long Green make a killer combo of green cukes in the garden. If I had to bring only 2 greens on an island, it would be them. I love the shape of Straight 8, and it is productive, ILG is even more productive.
Oh! Clarckbar, make pickles, it is fun.And You can get them crispy and crunchy using ice and taking your time and some other stuff...

I'll be sowing much later than you lot of course but this year I want to grow Mini-white, Northern Pickling, Piccolo di Parigi and Richmond River Green Apple. The first three are for pickles (love pickled cucumbers) and the last is for salads. Last year I grew one for seed for a friend. He got it many years ago off a neighbour who got it many years before that off an elderly Croatian chap who ... well, you know the sort of story. It was a brute of a cucumber which looked to me very much like Giant Russian. I also grew an unidentified small green one for pickles. For some reason the pickles went off this year so I won't have nay till next autumn

Raymondo... Am i reading this right about the Richmond river green apple? Is that the one you said was a brute?
I grew a variety last year.. just called Richmond green apple and mine never got larger than marble size before they started turning yellow. Maybe it wasn't the same variety or maybe it just didn't like my soil, but i didn't really like the one i had last year. It was almost all female blossoms though. Just never made it to any size in my garden.
Any of you that are growing Hmong Red... what's your opinion of that one? I've got some seeds for it this year.. but due to bad infestations of cucumber beetles the last two years i'm only gonna be growing a very few varieties this year. Any recomendations? Only one i know for sure i have to try this year is Suyo long. So, i can probably squeeze in 2 or 3 other varieties where i can keep a real close eye on the beetles without too much trouble.

I could send you some EPHRAIM HALL, a rare variety of whites that does well up in Manitoba, just got them from HERITAGE HARVEST SEEDS, and I suspect there is about 150 seeds in the packet, maybe 200, and her seed count in the other offerings is also very very high. I would love to send it to a couple of places to be tried, the offer is for everybody here...
