We've had a spell of actual winter. A few nights very close to zero F but not below and a few day time highs below freezing. Calling for a little snow next day or so. Dill is finally gone from the carrot patch.

Fairly warm and sunny today in Denver. 55 F yesterday, 45 today. A light dusting of snow overnight. I made my first planting of the year yesterday; permaculture things that need stratification overwinter.

Sounds like some of us on the East Coast may be getting a lot of snow at the end of this week

Oakland is now >normal-to-date rain; still <last year; hopefully it won't shut off like last year.

Oakland is now >normal-to-date rain; still <last year; hopefully it won't shut off like last year. Looks like a few more descent weather systems coming your way next week. How much rain has the central valley being getting lately?

I don't follow that much; I think it must be doing as well; more importantly, the Sierra Nevada is getting a decently normal snow-pack, which is much of Cali's dry-season water supply.

Today in the Bay Area was gloriously sunny with moderate temps; rain predicted tonight; typically around now we get 4-6 weeks of lovely (even T-shirt) weather, then the second, less heavy, hump of our "camel" rainy season, lasting through April. Used to be that the gentle Spring rains came every three days like clock-work, but it's years since things have been that regular; lately, we've been getting infrequent toad-chokers.

day one of a two-day snow storm today. may stay home just to avoid the folks who think they know how to drive in it but don't.

khoomeizhi, Hiked up a mountain on a warm sunny spring day in your neighborhood one time and came to a narrow ridge open on one side to a cliff. A strong wind picked up that must have been fifty degrees colder, in a few minutes it was by far the best hail and lightening storm I ever saw. Did a quick off trail descent down the other side, by the time we got down to a little valley it was snowing so hard you couldn't see through it. Holed up under a rock overhang with giant hemlocks blocking the front. Snow ended up probably three feet deep but was nice and cozy in our little hole. Rangers came by the next day. They must have followed our tracks out to the bathroom, or maybe they smelled our smoke. Anyway they told us the park was closed and we had to leave. We gave them some hot coffee and promised to do so. Next day it was in the 70s again and the trails were little creeks and the creeks looked like the Colorado river so we stayed a few more days. When we got home it was on the news that a bunch of college students got frost bite and hypothermia and if I remember right one or two died. That was too bad but for me it was the best camp trip I ever did.

yep - 'don't like the weather? wait a few minutes!'
it can be dangerous, but agreed, fun too. a few years ago on a probably similar warm spring day we had a brief but apocalyptic storm involving hailstones averaging an inch and a quarter in diameter. the seedlings i had out didn't like it so much.

On the eastern side of the South Island its being warm and dry, low 30C's and night temps of low 20C while over the other side of the alps colossal amounts of rain due over the next few days, up to 700mm or 28"

NH report - 8-10 inches with gusty, strong winds and deeper drifts in Eastern Pennsylvania. More further South in the D.C. area and more on the way!
Might be a good day to start onion seeds (indoors!)

We got up to 61 F here today, a nice sunny day. Still quite muddy, and possibly some snow on the way tomorrow. In the mean time, it was a good day to work on repairing damage to the hoop house on the farm.
