A more seasonal start to the year in Philly - next Monday into Tuesday we might even make it below average for temperatures! That warm December is now but a memory . . . Happy New Year!

A sub tropical low pressure system is currently moving down over us which hopefully should give us a brief respite from the drought.

For those guessing the annual rainfall [ philagardener reed and squishysquashy ] at my 'arid' farm, the 2015 total ended up at 70.3"!!! That's nearly four times the usual in a 'good' year. Karl, you are the winner! I will get a seedy prize off to you in the mail. Should be interesting to see what 2016 brings for us all. Personally, I would like at least one growing season without drought, flood, tornado, hail, excessive rain, or prolific pestilence. I hope that's not asking too much! Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and seeds, may all your gardens and projects prosper in 2016! Early morning winter river scene yesterday from the crossing near my home.

Beautiful, flowerweaver! Love the colours.
We just got our first snowplow of the season here, with about 6" on the ground. We've had a few snows that could have been plowed, but since were forecast to melt within a day, the guy didn't bother. Leaving for Cuba on Monday; I guess I'm glad to feel that there is enough winter to justify escaping from it... it's been so mild up until this week.

It's finally warming up here in Denver; we are back to the usual pattern of nights in the 20s, days in the 40s, at least for a while. For the last few days we have had lows below 10, highs in the 20s. We are ending the year at around 18 inches of rainfall, over our usual 14. Third year in a row of over average precipitation.

They're crowing about the start of El Nino, but the first storm, this morning, wasn't enough to keep us from work. The second, trumpeted to be heavier, came in the late afternoon, to less affect. I really hope to be woke in the night by pelting rain; this piddly shit is just aggravating. They predict rain through the next two weeks; where? Give me a break; bullshit won't water my plants or restock my well.
It's 1:45AM and raining decently; I'm gonna crash and hope to wake to it still raining.

14 F this morning, the coldest we have had so far. Maybe it will finally weed the dill out of my carrot patch.
