Our hot weather has ended for awhile. After last weekend's storms it has been cool and raining almost continuously. Sky cleared over night and stars are out this morning, temp is 39 degrees F. Been to wet to do a good inspection of the garden but there is some yellowing on some corn that is in a particularly wet spot of the patch and one bean patch looks rather spotty in germination. The se rows of another corn patch also look a little thin.
Will have to wait and see what a clearer sky tonight and tomorrow brings as far as frost. After several highs near 90 prior to this I really didn't expect that to be an issue. Sure hope I don't have to start over on anything but have plenty of back up seed if so, except for a couple of things. Also if part of something does OK and some doesn't. I'll be sure to save those seeds. People around here would say you shouldn't plant till May 15 but if you don't then you are sure to be hit with hot dry so I wouldn't have done anything different.
Today I'll scrounge up some old blankets and stuff in case I need them for my TPS crop. I have back up seed but would never get such nice beautiful plants starting over now with them, discovered last year they don't like hot dry weather.

Finally some beautiful weather here. Two warm sunny days in a row so far with more to come. Temp yesterday hit 79F. Still have not reached the 80F mark but too early and I don't want to see it yet, I am happy with 60s, and 70s are a pleasant treat.
Veggie gardens still too wet to plant, will take a week of sunny, warm weather to dry them out. Mowed lawn for the first time yesterday. Oh joy, but the lush groomed lawn really looks nice contrasting against the blooming tulips, crocus, daffodils, bleeding hearts, columbine, lungwort, and others.
Cherry and plum trees in full bloom, red splendor crabs just starting in. Fiddleheads winding down, asparagus will be ready for first harvest today or tomorrow. Hoorah, time for asparagus omelettes!

Weather in Cincinnati was calling for frost advisory over night but it was warmer yesterday than they said, mid seventies instead of mid sixties and a breeze was blowing from the south south/west last evening so I gambled. Currently 41 at 4:30 AM. It may drop another degree or two before sunrise but I think it's fine. Was a little worried cause I didn't have any back up of my Neandercorn and seed grown dahlias both of which are looking beautiful.

Luckily not un-godly hot on the farm, but horrid blustery north wind (hard enough to knock sprouts off the grape-vines), very drying. Farmers are out working their fields for planting, putting up enormous plumes of topsoil.
What with the copious-rain-encouraged weed growth, it's going to be an early and frequent fire season in Cali; the grasses are already very dry; forbs not yet so much, but it won't be long.

This week here it went from cold to hot to cold after a long two month spell of highs in the fifties. 50's F then 60's F then 80 F then 75 then 60's then 50's again. The heat made a huge advancement in phenology. Oak started to leaf out.

We hit 38F, several degrees lower than forecast. Was not planning on getting into the cold resistant tomato project so soon!

Very nice here in the center of the USA. Volunteer tomatoes are 4 inches tall. Made me reconcider where where I'll plant the seedlings that I'm ready to plant. I'm not going to ditch already established plants to put in new plants. Average last frost date is still a few days away, but 10 day forecast shows no frost.

I was surprised but we did have a small amount of frost yesterday morning but nothing was damaged in the garden. Forecast now call for temps back in the 80s so I'd say summer is here if I like it or not.

The past week's heat has heated up the Central Valley enough to suck cooler air in from the sea for the Bay Area; what a relief.

been a lovely long cool spring. Inland's been having frost warnings but my coastal lows have stayed above 45 F. Daytime highs around 65F. In other words, beautiful.

Pushing 90 F here right now, supposed to be hotter the next couple days. Shaping up to be repeat, maybe worse than last year. Little outdoor work between 11 AM and 5 PM. It is still just as hot at 5 PM but the sun is a little less intense. Humidity is low, feels kinda nice although a little freakish, 90 degrees with low humidity in the Ohio Valley? What the heck's up with that?
