Cold here too, minus 5C overnight, a bit warmer now. Got the last of the pears in the house yesterday, before they froze. Still have walnuts to gather, but the frost will make the husks mushy, and easier to clean. My bag of peatmoss is a hard block of ice right now, grin. I'll have to drag it into the porch to defrost a bit so I can use it.

Last week's farm temps: 66F-34F; 0.5" rain; a good start, the temps certainly make work less onerous, but not yet enough rain to pound posts or do much tillage; possible rain tonight/tomorrow.

Winter took up unawares. It had been warm, warm, warm, then it dropped to 20F over the weekend.I had the kids pull all the beets and bring them in the night before. The winter radishes look kinda sad and I hope the roots are still good--I hope the frost mellowed the flavor, they were quite harsh this fall. The kale and arugula thawed out and just kept growing. Everything else is kaput, in a single blow of the north wind.

Strong cell of high air pressure is due to park up over New Zealand for the next two weeks, some boring but lovely late spring weather to come. Looking like this will be the first time ever a three month spring period has not produced a below freezing temperature, if i was selecting for frost tolerance this year i wouldn't have a achieved anything.

Been light rain occasionally; first heavy storm predicted late today. Good for you. Looking like we will be using that dreaded D word, hasn't rained for a month or so and not likely to get much for the next three months either. Mind you thats normal.

Low 40s F and drizzly rain. Good day to settle in on the floor to sort seed for next year, with back to the wood stove.

It's been wet for about 5 days now although still cool at night, nothing at all like Prairie weather, for which I am thankful. The plants appear to be content, several had dropped their leaves after a particularly brutal night in the car in spite of several layers of light plastic, but they are all busy sprouting new leaves. When parked somewhere for an hour or more they mostly get arranged across the dash to get the most benefit from the light, that's prompted a few surreptitiousl second looks lol.
I was beginning to wonder if moss might grow on a vehicle for a day or two, but the sun was trying hard to come out today.

Woke up to thin blanket of snow this morning. I think it is our third but I am starting to lose track. Looks like it's going to snow-rain-melt-snow for a few weeks at this point. Not unheard of, but a continuation of the plentiful precipitation we've been having this year. Usually it's a little drier until we have a good, definite snow some time in late November or early December.

It's freaking cold here this morning. Mid 40s. But order will be restored with Thanksgiving predicted in the low 80s.
Unfortunately no rain in sight.

This week long period of fine clear but boring weather is set to continual another few more day yet, then to the end of this week inland heating is forcasted to start producing showers/storms, love these types of storms, they park up over one spot and hardly move anywhere, produce little wind and dump heaps of warm rain.

I've occasionally thought of using my '62 Valiant as a green-house.
Farm stats the past week: 56F-34F; 0.75" rain; well below normal-to-date, but a start to wetting the parched soil.
