Farm had cold wind Sunday; a bit more snow on the Coast peaks, but still not much; lots of rain that didn't get to the ground; 2018's first rainbow.

Ended up getting truck loads of rain here too, picked up 100mm which will help turn the country side green again, cooled things down though even snow on the tops of the mountains.

Sunny and breezy, 75F. Feels like May. Fortunately we're having another ice storm Friday night to keep things real.

After weeks of T-shirt weather, normal this time of year, we're getting uncommonly cold thermal-under-the-T-shirt weather; still looking much too dry.

The late summer cold snap brought half a metre of snow to one of the southern ski fields, wont still there though, be gone in a few day once the air flow swings back to warmer winds off oz.

Made it to 80F the other day, a record for month of Feb. Warm spell is over for now, cold rain and rain. Everybody's all freaked out about a flood! The river is a little high but if it's not full of houses and the like it's not a flood. Last time that happened was 50 years ago. It's kind of funny seeing all the development in places I'v personally seen under water. Houses, power plants, casinos. The next real flood will be a quite a spectacle.

Here in Cali, building on flood-plains was long very popular; such nice level land; of course, we may not have to worry about floods, given our drought-ish conditions.

After about 10 days of warm, two freezing rains the last two nights. Enough to make driving exciting. Not enough to help the wheat. I gave each hardy orange seedling two liters of H2O last week. We'd had no rain or snow worth counting for a month, and almost none the month before. A 6" snow is almost zero inch water.

Not raining right at this minute but supposed to do so a lot more in coming days. It's plenty warm enough to plant carrots, onions, radishes, lettuce ... but don't sound like it's gonna dry off enough for at least a week or maybe more. I'm considering just going ahead and planting in the mud. Of course it could still snap cold again but I got plenty of seeds to replant if necessary.
River still rising and some low lying roads are flooded. Makes easy access with the kayak. It's fun to explore the flooded valleys.

Much more of this and I'd say the stone fruit is likely to be shot this year, and its shaping up to be a terrible syruping year.

Cooler mornings are happening more now, autumn is here. All the tomatoes i had outside in large pots were planted inside the tunnelhouse last evening, one lot are my first ever tomato cross named Rangi, only needing a couple of friut off each of these F2's. Also planted 4 Burpees Long Keeper for winter ripening fruit.
