Much more of this and I'd say the stone fruit is likely to be shot this year, and its shaping up to be a terrible syruping year. I haven't seen much budswell on the peaches or sour cherries yet, they're still shaded to the south by the conifers/buildings. Have they been breaking dormancy for you?

They sure are here, crab apples down in the river valley are blooming. Buds are great big on lilacs. Peonies are up, daffodils are recovering from previous freezes. A lot of them were completely frozen down back in December I think it was and are just now coming back up. They are actually prettier than the others, lacking the brown tops to the leaves. I hope now that it doesn't snap cold again although I feel behind in my garden chores, it's time to plant!
I'm sure I'v missed my chance at trying to make maple syrup. It hasn't been below freezing for quite awhile and lots of rain. Buds are swelling on the maples too. I'll be alert next year and try it earlier in the year like I'v heard others in my area did.

Farm low was 25F this week; enough to fry all the lettuce I'd planted out; lots more snow on the Coast peaks, still not much, but there was diddley last week; today was occasional rain and/or hail, so more for the peaks.

Started decent rain at 10:30PM in Oakland; so welcome: may continue off-and-on through Saturday: hope the farm gets the same; it will stop me working while it rains, but insure work later.

We got our second icy nor-easter in a week around here. Lots of snow, sleet and ice but temperatures slightly above freezing. Doesn't look like the temperatures will damage the crop...that is, if the tree is still standing and still has limbs.
A couple folks killed by falling trees stressed by the weight of the ice and the high winds.

Getting cooler by the day, autumn is closing in, the longer the first frost holds off the better, if it can be another 4 weeks i'll be happy as the pumpkins and corn have never been better than this summer which it turned out to be the hottest in hundred and thirty years.

First morning to notice ice on the car, not heavy enough to worry the frost tender plants but wont be long before we start to get the killing frosts

richardw, that's lovely! Was hoping to plant peas this week but 3 or 4 inches of snow and looks like below freezing temperatures for another week or so. Impatient as I am this is probably all to the good.

Been being just a little frosty in the mornings here, 40s and 50s daytime and plenty dry enough to work. I'm gonna try to get a lot of stuff planted today and tomorrow, before the predicted rain on Saturday.

I've been carrying my citrus inside when freezes are predicted, and outside when above freezing is predicted. Mid-winter, they were inside with little light for a week or more at a time. Not good. Now they are out nearly every day, and sometime spend 4 or 5 nights in a row outside. This is much better. Sure hope my greenhouse is repaired and with a wood stove next winter. I have 70 new seeds started, and several in one-liter pots that should be in bigger pots next winter. Time to start building another greenhouse.
