It's been cool and damp here, not a lot of rain but fairly frequent sprinkles. Ground is workable but still dry deep down. Temps are pleasant for outdoor work so I'v been cleaning up and getting ready for next year.

The rainy season is predicted to start tomorrow, four weeks late.

It rained a little yesterday, but it's coming down seriously right now (10:40PM); this is excellent, as I have a lawn to install and the soil needs the hydrotherapy to relax it; so glad it's come so the sod can be rolled out while the soil is relatively warm; if it had to be put off to Spring the soil would be cold and the sod wouldn't root as fast. I think it's also raining OTF so I can till and plant my favas and peas, though that's not as sure, since this rain is coming from the north, so it may be split off down the coast and into the Central Valley; only the Pineapple Express from the south is guaranteed to water the farm. Yeeha! Cali's rainy season has started late, but it has started; might slow the fire season, though not a minute too soon.

Sleet and snow and freezing rain, all the good stuff. I finally made time to plant the garlic Sunday midday, just as it began to hail. If it weren't for impending doom/inclement weather, I might never have gotten around to it...

Saturday, going over the pass to the farm, there were sleet-balls falling; that continued well into the night; Sunday morning it was 3" deep OTF, all Sunday into noon Monday there was light rain, but still patchy fluffy ice all over.
Fairly impressive at <1200'.

Fairly impressive at <1200'. At first I read that at 3 feet of sleet balls. And I was like darn straight that's impressive!

Yeah, that would have been impressive and I'd have been unable to leave for a week. Generally it gets no lower than 3000', although once it snowed a foot OTF.

It was predicted no rain these next eight days; it's raining now; so much for weather reports.

Coldest so far this morning at 17 F, except for that one morning three weeks ago of 8 F. Hasn't really frozen in the time between. Moon is full or nearly so and stars are bright. Little bit of fog freezing out so the air is kinda sparkly.

Some lite frost this morning. Bright sunshine burning it off in little wisps of steam. Feels like spring!

not yet here by a long shot, but a break in the hard cold is nice even if we know it will be coming back eventually...
today at least i could get outside for a bit and get a few things done.

With the comparatively early snow the frost is not deep in the ground so far, which means earlier soil warming next spring but with the above average temps. right now the snow is going away and if we do not get another foot or more of snow and sub-zero returns, the frost will go down deep.

we picked up about 4-6 inches of rain the other day. glad it wasn't snow! the warm spell we had let me get out and get some weeding done on a garden so i put the break to good use. last night we had a little snow, but it will all be melted off as we'll be back into the 40s for a few days this week. a very mild season, which after the early snow we expected it to be a bit tougher than it has been so far. either way, plenty to do.

Happy New Year to everyone and may your gardens grow abundantly and well in 2020. We had spasms of heavy rain yesterday but continuing mild, not even threatening frost.(On BC coast not at home).

It was looking like we'd entered the dry spell in our two-humped rainy season early, which was worrying, as we got little of our heavy rains, but it's been a bit of rain nights this week; I still expect a lean year, since the second hump usually has no heavy rain. Weeds are sprouting apace.
