I was raised in the Salvation Army. Whew! I remember at about age 5 with other kids my age, being shown some sort of apolcolypse film where people without some sort of mark on their foreheads were getting beheaded. Scared me to death! I got out of religion ASAP. Don't trust anyone who tells me what I should THINK.

I didn't know the Salvation Army was like that. No more donations for them.

Well, they do a good job with their charities, I believe. But the religion is over the top and too...military-like, which to me is high on the creepy chart.

I did not even know the Salvation Army was a religion, I tought it was a christian non specificly religion based organisation. I tought I could join it as a Catholic as much as a protestant or whatever...
Oh well! The old clothes will go elsewhere...

There isn't one close by here to donate to or shop in. But the animal shelter near Cooperstown has a resale shop. So I drop my stuff there. We adopted the dog at that shelter. And I like the fact it is a no-kill shelter.

Anyone who's pro-life and pro-war must really be torn up inside. Can't imagine how they live with themselves. Heh, strat, by "pro-life" they mean "pro-American-life", not those pesky, non-christian, muslim women and children over there. Geez.

Hey, mawk.
That sounds about right. Add men and old people to the list and that area of the world is covered.
After getting kicked out of Sunday school pre-Beatles(ca. 1963), I've enjoyed missing the hypocrites and blue bloods. If I lived to be 100 I'd never be a city father. ;D

I'm not exactly sure what the religion is of the SA. I just remember going to regular church, being in Sunbeams (like girl scouts), potlucks on Wed. night and all that crap. There is christening, baptism, bible camp, preaching about hell and damnation and all that good scary stuff.

Hey folks, let's stop that religion bashing, and admit every religion can be a fantastic thing, just like a cockroach when she eats...another one And let's all remember that word from the great french philosopher Voltaire, a great supporter of the founding of a free and democratic America, who was consulted a lot by Benjamin Franklin, one of his greatest admirers, and whose spirit is evident in the american constitution: '' God created man, who gladly returned him the favor'' Voltaire, like France, played a key role in the birth of America. Some of those who go to bed with the bible and a copy of the constitution under their pillow should remember him and France a bit more, and that the separation of the church and the state that build this country, at the time like today populated by a lot of faithfull people, was implemented by these very, very religious folks and devoted christians. The bible sucking crowd of today would shame them. And they, too, were reading it every night before falling asleep.

Just a note to mention that some of us here are actually believers. I'm a practicing Catholic, for example. I don't consider myself stupid, or generally cockroach-like. Carry on....
PS - this was post number 666 for me. Make of that what you will.

Lav, you don't qualify as a bible thumper by any means. You seem too smart, too nice, and you drive a cool truck!!!! I never meant it as an attack against any religion, just a rant against the crazy fanatics who take it way over the top, and come across as pretty much insane. Believing in a particular or any religion does not qualify you as part of that general group, just because you do.

There's a difference between being religious and being a fanatic.

Soory Clarkbar but I won't stop!! ;D And once and for all, there is as much difference between us french canadians and the french as there is between the mexican ''pueblo'' and the spaniards...
When I play the '' french bastard '' personnage, usually in an argument with Alan, I laugh about him in my mind, I find him obnoxious and ridicully over-proud, the ones knowing real french people might too, and other french canadians here totally know it is not one of them speaking. Call that an intellectual bluff or so, but remind it goes back to Alan and me first and some fun we had together.
And Lav, so am I, we are very friends with the priest to add on top of it. I have a planned night with him to listen to music together soon...
As sammy said, and I too, faith and religion are 2 very different things, and all religion suck, including mine. My priest would tend to agree a lot on this last one. It does not kill his faith but he would love to see many changes implemented in this gerontocratic conservative catholic religion of ours.... If catholicism resembles you, then good for you. It does not resemble me, and it has nothing to do with faith. It is nice to see the old and wise play a role in any society and organisation and church, but they tend to walk slowly, not only physically, and be set in their mind a bit too much... balance is the essence of life itself. We need fresh output.
When young we know everything, growing older discover doubt, then know we know nothing, then a lot of us regress to teenage when very old and resume knowing everything. And they are a crual bore, the summum of deafness and idiocy. I wish I die when I become like that, if it ever happens. This is when real old age happens and becomes like a plague. Recognize your church? I do.
Lots of very aged folks will never be like that, luckilly. They are easy to spot, they keep their sense of wonder...
And anything with the word ''dogma'' in it gives me diarrhea. I'd rather get it from over-loading with beer....
Michel
