Sammy,
You've just mentioned one of the reasons I joined this board and not the others. I haven't really come across any crazies here.
I have to watch my blood pressure, so I don't even lurk on the other sites. It is bad enough I skim/read Boing-Boing, slashdot and Groklaw.
But now I'm off to get a drink, Chivas Regal I think.

Pugs, you almost had me wake my wife in laughter, I am reading the posts in my bed. I can't figure out what you mean AT ALL by ''Boing-Boing, slashdot and...'' I swear, I have no friggin clue what you mean, There is a slight language barrier here, so as I do often when my french brain can't make sense of words, I pronounce them phonetically, sometimes the sounds bring back memories. Well, I could not get past the BOing-Boing, I am exhausted from a loooooong day in the garden and feel silly, so hearing myself saying it had me explode, and I repeated it maybe 10 times like a retarded lunatic, laughing more and more each time. Now you know why I don't need dope But for God's sake, would you tell frenchie here what you meant,I still have no friggin clue. Bye- Bye Boing-Boing Silly me, really really silly me...

Sammy, You've just mentioned one of the reasons I joined this board and not the others. I haven't really come across any crazies here. Pugs No crazies on this board? You haven't looked hard enough, Pugs. The prob with the other forum is that many of the "thumpers" are so closed minded. They even insult other Christians if they are not the "right" denomination. Just ridiculous. I am not into their whole fire and brimstone threats. If, by some slim chance, there is a "hell'', I figure I will see most of my friends there. Probably some of those Bible thumpers too. lol Personally, I couldn't care less about what religion anyone practices. As long as you aren't pushing your beliefs on me, I will be respectful of you. I am Wiccan, but I can still have a religious discussion with my Jehovah's Witness inlaws. I think after 15 yrs they know I can not be converted. Any dinner at their house starts off with a long prayer to Jesus. Honestly, I just bow my head and listen to dad rattle on for 5 minutes. It's really no big deal to me. ok I am off to worship my Goat God. LOL

Ahh.. this is fun and all to talk amongnst friends and all ... but where else am i gonna find four thousand others to discuss pot? Oh,. don't answer.. it's a rhetorical question!
I've been having fun over there recently with that thread you started sammy.. "in pot we trust" I see you have quit posting though. Then i started another.. and now i can't even get the "thumpers" to post anymore. I think they've figured out that they are way out of their league when it comes to debating me. And i haven't even started with the religion aspect of it yet. Oh well.. maybe if i get more time later i'll start mentioning that Jesus used cannabis, and see how much of a reaction i can get.
I've got nothing against religion.. any religion except radical islam.. but i do kind of hate the hypocrisy from some of those thumpers.
Oh well.. it's supposed to rain here later.. so maybe i'll go over there and stir the pot a little.

I don't really post much anymore, for that very reason. I enjoy a debate, political or not, even if it's not particularly about food, (electric cars, solar power, Hillary vs. Obama, whatever) but I hate getting hit in the head with a flying bible all the time.
I don't mean to sound intolerant, and people can be whatever they want, I just don't want it shoved in my face. I know I don't have to read the posts but there were some people I actually enjoyed talking to over there. But a lot of them don't post anymore either. I did see the pot threads, AG, pretty funny. Go stir the pot some more!
P.S. The tomatoes are doing really well. The ones I grew out from you are labeled (AG) so I know which are which. Siberian and Moscovitch are nice, sturdy little plants! I think the Russians are going do well this year. I didn't get all of them started, but will try some of the others next year.

Michel, Hey, I'm glad I gave you a laugh. Sorry you woke up your wife. The facts behind the laugh aren't really funny and rather pedestrian (sp?). I'm a bit of a computer geek. Not a real one, even though my B.S. is in Software Engineering. I read some geek web sites. Among them are: boingboing.net/ - which has a little bit of everything. slashdot.org/ - mainly geek news, but also stuff on civil rights, freedom, etc. www.groklaw.net/ - follows the follys' of a The SCO Group, a company who filed 4 lawsuits against companies and had one filed against them. They are now in bankruptcy. They have, inesence, lost the two that have gone to trial. The others are on hold. Also covers some other issues (usually legal ones) dealing with Open Source Software (i. e. Linux, Apache, Mozillia, Firefox, OpenOffice). When I read some of the stories on these websites, my blood pressure shoots up. Pugs

So this is a thread that' changes a Belgian guy's point of view on US folks, we do get the image everyone in the US has a bible in every room, saying 'God bless you' after each sentence , rejecting Darwin and other stuff. Woow, I'm glad I'm not the only atheist over here. I do accept religious opinions, as long as they are not threatening (there are some very radical protestant groups, and others), or trying to convince someone else they should become member of this or that church... But in some parts of the world, religious groups are still baptising (I'm thinking of the Amazone forrest in Brazil, Papoua New Guinee,..), lots of old traditions have already been lost because of this , and that is something really bad, but it's very difficult to put a stop to these practises, Frank

What you say is true orflo, most of the rest of the world has the impression that the USA is a giant Bible Belt, the only modern christian universe that could easily become a christian Al-Quaeda-ish base. It is not so. It would be, if these lower life forms were not kept in check by people like our friends here.
My father, when I was a teenager, bought the house of a retiring evangelist minister, and the young one replacing him became our neighbour. Both were coming from the USA. The young one went to an international evangelist congress that was held in Canada, Montréal I think, and came back disgusted. The ones from the Bible Belt wanted to have some somewhat diluted form of racial segregation AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE voted in the chart of the organisation.
Look at the historical map of the KKK spead, and then the one of the EVANGELISTS. They are not the same, but LOTS of common areas hey!
The funny thing is the evangelists are the biggest so called christian force backing up Israel, at whatever philosophical cost, but it should not come as a surprise. Listen to 100 preaches on TV, and count on your fingers the number of times you will hear about the New Testament, the book at the origin of Christianity. Don't worry, you can loose a couple of them on a table saw...
And the old testament, the Genesis and all that fine litterature IS EVERYTHING BUT CHRISTIAN, BUT PREDATES IT, AND IS AT THE HEART OF JUDAISM.
All religions are a pain in the ass, ALL OF THEM. Which does not mean faith is bad, it is not the same thing . Faith is the fruit that nourishes the believers souls, but that fruit is carried by a truck named religion, and this truck is old and dangerous and polluting.
And anyway a cat is a cat and evangelists are barely christians, certainly not much more than muslims, there should be another category for them. They share the book with judaism much more than others after all. Nobody talks about the New Testament Belt.
I put many of them EXACTLY in the same bag as Al-Quaeda. The only difference is how contained the bomb is, not its destructive capacity.

Sammy - uh huh (that means 'yep' in American.)
Pugs - Blood Pressure... so that's why I sleep so much after skimming idig...
Michel - you crack me up.
Flowerpower - cross-denominational bickering - one would think there are better things to do.
Americangardener - I've been meaning to tell you, your debating skills are astounding. I've been reading your pot thread.
Orflo - No, we're not all that way. They just make more noise than the rest of us. In fact, I just finished watching a biography of Charles Darwin - I even met one of his direct descendants once. But I think it's having an effect on me; I was trying to call back to the owls a few nights ago, and my wife and daughter thought I sounded more like a monkey than an owl...
On the other hand, there must be quite a few, or we never would have elected that ape of a president... TWICE!
What's the world coming to?
Personally, I try to be tolerant and open-minded about religion. I studied the major (and some minor) world religions (after being raised a Catholic,) and even practiced a fusion of Taoism and Zen Buddhism for years (couldn't decide which made more sense...) I don't really know what to believe, except that nobody has all the answers. When cornered about his religious beliefs, Thomas Jefferson once answered that he was an Apiarist. Like the bee, he took the sweet stuff from all religions.

Johno, your last post just plain disgusted me. Insults of that nature should have you expelled from here and are NOT ACCEPTABLE coming from what should be a gentleman, and a global moderator to add on top of it, one that should prove nuanced and of higher moral and philosophical standards. There is a limit on what one can say, and you have well passed that treshold. Your comments are ignominious, disgraceful and not deserved nor wanted. On behalf of all the monkeys in the world, I demand that you retract your insults ;D
