Ya, can be a bunny too. There is a flowering plant common name Mickey Mouse which is those exact color, that part of the reason it looks like a Mickey to me.
All somebody needs to do is give it a couple of bunny front teeth to finish it off. LOL
I keep starring at it wondering how it came to be so perfect. Wondering how it fused to make such a cute shape. : )

Hahahahah That's perfect. : ) How clever of you. Can you just imagine all the children who would suddenly become tomato lovers if they had that on their plate. Might get them to eat more salads too.
I have seen pumpkins and squash growing in molds into cute shapes, but I don't know if anybody has tried it with a tomato yet. Might be interesting to try.

Reminds me of some eggplants with noses or other appendages.
Very cute.

I wonder, how much temperature plays in the colors of tomatoes? The reason I am asking, my OSU is now almost black. I used to look at the bottom for red, to tell when they were ripe. But, they are now black all over, how do I tell when they are ripe?

Ozarklady: I think you will have to feel them to be sure, like green-when-ripe varieties. If you have saved seeds from the plant in the picture, I would love to trade for a few

These are the same plants that produced the red with a blue blush early on in the season. Alan shared the seeds with me. I love the taste of them, wasn't impressed by the color, until now! Not sure if it is the cooler temps, leaf coverage or what, but now they are quite dark. I saved seeds of this tomato like crazy, cause I loved the taste of them, blue or not! This one produced all through the heat, the drought, and now the cool down in the low 40's at night, and hasn't let up all season long. I am in love with these little cherries! Send me a pm.

The Dane is right, carefully feel them. I suggest that you also watch for color changes, as the purple is fairly superficial and the red underneath will make them even deeper colored. But some of the ones in my yard are purple over green-when-ripe. LOL! Even harder to tell. Dane, if you want some purple tomatoes, consider signing up for Tom Wagner's newsletter which will tell you when he has any ready for prime time. www.mutuallyassuredsurvival.com/mailman/listinfo/newsletter_tatermaterseeds.comSome of his lines are starting to have normal tomato flavors (as opposed to the very bland original flavor that Carolyne Male calls a "spitter"). I dunno how much longer it will take. I don't think a lot of them got a fair evaluation because of the horrific weather this year.

If you follow TTG, I think it will be possible to get some of Kozula's tomato seeds in November for SASE, including some dark ones, but only bred from "normal" varieties, not OSU Blue or Blueberry.

Bright light and cooler temps are crucial to anthocyanin expression. Darth

Fruit from a F2 plant (Black and Brown Boar x OSU Blue). The stripes (gs) from BBB and anthocyanin (Aft) from OSU give an interesting pattern. Attachments:

Now that the season is over, I'm wondering if any of the plant breeders, might have tested to see just how much anthocyanin some of the OSU crosses might have compared to a common red tomato. I'm not sure how they would test them I think they have to be analyzed by a electro spectrograph, but I might be wrong on this, anyway I was just wondering. George W.

They probably could be tested with a spectrophotometer. They should have one at any of the nearest community colleges or universities. I'm sure they'd be willing to test them for you if you asked nicely. Th pictures I've seen people posting this year have looked fantastic! I wish i had been able to grow some this year, but i haven't figured out a good sprouting technique for tomato seeds. I had one plant this spring, but it died after 3 weeks or so. I think have a few seeds left to try next year, but with my luck I'd appreciate a few more if anyone has any extra. Feel free to PM me if anyone has seeds to spare.
