My first corns on-the-cob from Double Red x Mirai F1 Beautiful for the eyes and very good taste (nice mix of sugary and supersweet kernels) All endosperms are white to avoid brownish red coloration with red pericarp and yellow endosperm. Of course all pericarp are red in this generation, will see what it becomes in the next generation... corn

It has been dry here. Little rain since May. A few lightning storms moving through, but due to the low humidity the rain evaporates before it hits the ground. No hope of virga here, relative humidity this morning 80% and it's a dry day The last pic of your wild fire is really impressive

And most importantly, how do you know when these are ripe? MB With several cv of cantaloupes the rind begins to crack around the peduncle when the fruit is ripe. don't know if it works with yours.

somewhat confusing post... It dry faster, no it dry slower, no it dry faster...
Lighter colouring kernels is probably interesting in the homogenous backgroung of a yellow clone but it doesn't work for white corn or in a OP background where you can find heaps of modifiers concerning carotene contain of endosperm.
Concerning sugar level OP background is also a drawback as heaps of modifiers (including se) can change sugar level.
Thus how to be sure to select for se... Tire ton plan
In fact, se was discovered in the early 70s and how many does seOP sweetcorn exist?

I'm finally getting a cross that I tried for last year but had the timing all wrong. I started some Country Gentleman seed and 3 weeks later started some Silver King. They are flowering today. Both tassels and silks are open and ready for business. DarJones So apparently shoepeg is a late variety. I wanna try it, but guess my season is too short for planting outdoors. If you are using recurrent backcrossing with shoepeg you have to select again and again for homozygous se. Not easy. Have you already had experiences with this selection? Some tips for me? I want to select homo se from a cross made last year. good luck Amaury

That's why I don't like tall corn. Your sandy soil is certainly a drawback concerning lodging In my conditions lodging appears when ears are well developped

Hi André your corn are a little ahead of mine. Normal Yes even if these are your seeds, south of France is warmer than Belgium ;-) Its depends also on sowing date. Mine was sown on may 10.silking has begun yesterday thus not so late ;-) (sown first May)
