A couple of years ago, unknown to me at the time, I had one bean flower from a Hidatsa Shield cross with a Dragon Tongue. I had tried a 3-sisters garden but used an inapropriate corn which was collapsed by the Hidasta Sheild beans into my dragon tongue patch.
Found out about the cross the next year when I had 2 bean plants in my shields give me new beans. Both long pods with red streaks, and one white beans with reddish speckling, and the other brown beans with darker speckling.
Grew those out, separately last year, and got just a ton of new ones, with some sticking to the types that I had planted. I have about 30 variations now. Not quite sure what to do with that many. Dont have the room or time to grow THAT many new types out. My plan though is to grow the two main ones that stuck true to type at just an F2 (and which I have, by far, the most seed for) and maybe the next 6 best in production, and then see how they taste (I didnt eat any of them yet) as both a snap, and as a dry.
Most of the beans are large, at least as large as hidasta sheild, some quite a bit larger. I figure worst case scenario is that I have more dried beans, and more nitrogen in the soil where I grow them. All of them vined to one extent or another.
