i got a saucer sled early for Christmas yesterday. i used it for the first time this morning to take water and feed down the hill to the duck pen in 2 feet plus of snow.
it worked great! but, curly has taken a liking to it. he pulled it all over the front yard and all over the driveway! now i have to get him one!!!
pics soon...

Looks to cold for this warm blooded old man, I do remember a couple of times when I was a kid that we got snowed in for week or so at a time, it was fun for us kids, but at the same time I knew that My dad had to take a long hard walk into town to make enough money to keep us all fed, that was back in the 50's, now days people just call in because they can't get out of there driveways here, sure not like where you are. I bet you keep your cellar well stocked. George W

Hi Bunky Your have a pretty good deal going there reminds me of the farm we had deep in the Ozarks we didn't have a tractor, but we did have a really good mule that could plow the garden or drag us kids around on our slays. What kings of apples to you grow? I know you said that they had three types grafted onto them? We had a lot of ducks too, great little things to keep the bugs down and the eggs and meat from them was good. Do you run a smoke house also, My dad who grew up in the depression kept our smoke house going most of the year to flavor and cure most of the meat we raised. Nothing like a big Home cured and cold smoked ham or a smoked deer roast . George W.

hi george! ed's wanted to build a smoker since we've been here. i guess i just have too many 'honey do's' for him! we'll get to it soon. not sure what the apples are. they are over 80 years old. nice tasting old varietoes like macintosh. we have planted some dwarf trees a couple years ago of newer varieties. they haven't fruited yet. guess what? more pics! ...the white dots in the pics are real snow falling...it hasn't stopped all day... this is the way i carry the ducks' food and water downhill to them...on a saucer sled in a box with a rug under it... curly readying to pull the sled for me... curly pulling the sled... curly putting some muscle into it... everyone works on this farm curly tasting some snowfakes to quench his thirst after working so hard... more snow... curly loves the snow...what's he plotting... sneak attack... lizzie's ready... snow fight... snow ducks... ducks enjoying fresh water... ed breaking duck pond ice up... i stay inside and bake...whole wheat bread and rolls in the oven...using my new cast iron bread pans...

Nice Pics, we had a couple of large dogs to let us know when some one was driving up our road, I think our small beagles did a better job at sounding the alarm, nice pictures of the ducks also they remind me of the ones we had during the winter the pond would freeze but that didn't stop the ducks from trying to land on it, then they would slide around quacking like mad. I like the pictures of your fresh bread, I do a lot of baking just for myself, now that everyone has moved off. I use a lot of ground flax seed and pumpkin seeds in my bread so mine doesn't rise as nice as yours. A small smoke house is nice to have if you raise a lot of meat for yourself. George W.
