Great pics. The ones of Pete hangin out on the duckpen door remind me of a cat one of my assistants on the lightstation had = it was seriously narcoleptic. It would climb up on top of the fence, put its forehead on the fence rail between its front feet, and become comatose. If something caused it to fall off of the fence, it just fell, without making any movement to try and right itself. Hit the ground and lay there until it was time to end the supernap.

poor sammy is right! everything now is 'no ducks', 'no goats', 'no this and that'. happens to every pup we get here on the farm! he likes to go down to the duck pen and stare at the ducks. the minute one moves he jumps all over the place and makes them scurry. he also likes to bark at the frogs in the other pond...constantly so it's irritting to our ears. hubby pouts a piece of pvc pipe in the pond and blows in it creating bubbles...then sammy runs away! he's just like a little kid!
yesterday hubby and friend culled the duck flock. we now have a few in the freezer and nine girls and three boys left who are enjoying more room in the pond and pen.
one girl built a small nest under the tarp over the straw. she's trying to get all the girls to lay there with a bit of success. we marked one egg we leave in the nest, and take all the others. so far so good, but i still think one girl's holding out on us?!
the plants are getting really big in the greenhouse, and it's getting full! the weather's starting to cooperate for outside planting of jerusaleem artichokes, fruit trees, etc..., but it's still a bit nip and tuck with cold temps, cold soil, and threats of thunder storms with possible hail...so...everyone remains happy in the greenhouse for a bit longer.
tuxedo still taunts sammy. when i make popcorn, i toss them both some and can get them a foot apart with noi hissing or barking. but, remove the popcorn and they're constantly at it. pete is still in love with sammy....and does keep him in line at times with his paws.
the cherry tree and crabapple tree are in bloom, finally. still waiting for the peach, apples and pear trees. the daffies bloomed two days ago! so late! more pics soon...

snowing in May... finally some sun and tuxedo is checking it out... TPS in greenhouse last week appreciating the warmth... toms in greenhouse last week...everyone's hanging in there... pete's enjoying the sunshine too... sammy decides to go mole hunting... sammy realling getting into the hunt... sammy decides he needs to rest... sammy spots the ducks... sammy gets so excited when they run... now, sammy's ready to pick dandelions... "me, i'm not eating any, honest"... after picking dandelions, sammy needs another rest... louise and pete resting...this is why pete didn't pick dandelions with us... ------------------ this morning we had a visitor...it's between our garden fence and our roadside fence....

it's spring! hubby in bottom right hand corner hooking up duck pond water...happy ducks... sammy watching the ducks...in upper right hand corner... happy hummers... more happy hummers... tilled potato and sweet potato garden...pllanted yesterday...pics at eleven! ) back two new gardens tilled. corn got planted in the left one today....and onions... big garden tilled too. goats taking a break in front from grazing... the beginnings of our root cellar...on the right... the orchard in bloom, finally...and the almost end of last year's woodpile...good thing spring decided to show up! and a lot of hubby's 'stuff, buckets and such... lilacs and the milkbarn/hubby's workshop... thelma with reddish horns from rubbing against the garden fence poles as we put them in the ground... yawning pete...and tux... muddy sammy...been hunting moles...he's a 'buzy bakson' (from rabbit in 'Tao of Pooh')... our garlic came through the winter beautifully. to the right, well mulched, we planted jeresalum artichokes...hubby tilling where we'll be planting beans... this is very interesting. last year our neighbor ran out of our usual wheat straw we mulch the gardens with, so we used his grass stray insead. the results are remarkable! hardly any weeds, whereas with the wheat straw the weeds would be pretty thick by now...course..hubby says it's just his excellent tillling skills... )... garlic and photogenic barn... whoa...time to do some mowing or rotate the goats! perennial wheat and rye to the upper left, and garlic on the upper right... closeup of our trial perennial wheat and ryes. ryes are on the left and wheat on the right. time to trim down some weeds in the aisles... i captured this 'sundog' early in the morning... a closeup....

Lovely post and pics, ended up reading it from the start. I think Pete is so cool. I miss having animals about the place, I'd forgotten how much they make you laugh/smile and how they "help" you out in the garden

Wow, what a cool visitor! Lucky she visited you. If she had been here, the guys would have been all over themselves trying to have her for dinner!
