For the fun of it, lets all play a game to get to know each other a little bit better. This game works like this...I'll start by asking a question, and answering it about myself. The next person who comes in answers my question, and then posts another question for the next person to answer and so on...
Cheesy I know...But it works.
Sooo...
What is your favorite book/author?
I'm a gothic horror/romance junkie, so I read most anything by Anne Rice, I have all of the Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witch Chronicles...

White Crosses & Montana 1948 by Larry Watson, and of course The Sleep Book by Dr. Seuss. As to a genre, I was a Medieval Lit major about a milleneum ago, so if it's by Chaucer, and it's in Middle English, I'm there!
Okay, a question... What kind of music do you listen to?
I'm a pretty eclectic listener, but if I could only have one style, you'd find me listening to 80's & 90's style punk/ alternative stuff: Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, 7 Seconds, etc. I lived in the sphere of NYC in high school and college, and then moved out to Seattle to ride the grunge wave... the Gits, 7 Year B*tch, and the early, before-they-were-hot years of Alice n Chains and Soundgarden were flavorishuss, as well. Who's next?

Anything Hunter S. Thompson, Franz Kafka, any extestentialist writer. I also like spider-man, ghost rider (the 70's run), Spawn comics. Music biographys, particularly "lost in the woods" and "a saucerfull of secrets" about the early Pink Floyd. Also, Edward Gorey books. A whole lot of religious texts. Particularly the Nag Hamadi library and related texts. The Quaran. Jewish Mysticism. Native American history books.
Lavundula Girl, you have great taste in music there.
Me I'm pretty darn ecclectic myself.
A few of my favorites:
Jerry Lee Lewis Buddy Holly AC/DC (bon scott, not Brian Johnson) Robert Johnson Ralph Stanley The Cure Joy Division Ronnie James Dio (rainbow, sabbath, and on his own) Nine Inch Nails Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett David Bowie The 13'th Floor Elevators/Roky Erickson Days of the New Alice 'n Chains Soundgarden Sebadoh/Jason Lowenstein Elephant Micah
Many, Many, more!

Okay - cutting back in to comment, even though it ain't my turn... The Cure is enormous live, if you haven't seen 'em, do. (I know - not much touring going on, but at least they might!) I'm enough older than you that I've seen a lot of these bands in person, some in small venue. (yeah, I know I suck, but I rock too!) On the comic tip - if you haven't heard Louis CK, give him a listen. If you have, know that I have spent most of my life yelling "Bad Thing!" and then watching the crash.... ;D

LG and Alan are right up my alley musically.
Alan. I LOVE ROKY ERICKSON. I actually got to meet him, kiss his hand and tell him how much he meant to me. He's a genius and a wonderful human being. I danced with his 70 some odd year old mom on his birthday, as well. What a fun night!
I think I really like this group!

Well, I guess I'm a rebel then. I saw The Cure when the played w/ The Cult in gosh, 1988? It was fantastic! Sorry that I'm not following the rules here.

And HouseOdessey - I saw that tour too! Sweet! I'm not a comic book gal, but my hubster loves Silver Surfer (he's a loner but he loves ME!!!) so I get props through association. I introduced my dad (country and bluegrass fan exclusively, but also an english prof/politics hound) to the Dead Kennedy's and he got hooked in his early 50's. It's amazing how much people underestimate the power of music and other forms of outsider art as political influence. Loving this group!!!

Wow, meeting Roky would freaking blow my mind along with seeing the Cure live. Particularly if it had been one of the two trilogy shows (holy crap). You danced with Evelyn Erickson? Wow, that would be awesome and creepy. Is she as weird as they say? Just curious, hope I didn't offend. I am a guitarist and Roky Erickson has had a huge influence on me, I have actually sat down and figured out every song on the evil one, don't slander me, and the acoustic tracks on Gremlins have pictures. My favorite track: Sputnick (alien I creator), but then again I think this track gives off a Gnostic "creator god" vibe. I'm a bit tiched I suppose (weird) Have you seen the doc. on him called "your gonna miss me"? I haven't yet but am looking forward to it and will find a way to see him in concert soon. You should definetly burn some cd's for lavundula girl. Now, onto some more music. If you guys like the Cure and You like Roky you should really, really check out Pink Floyds first album "the Piper at the gates of dawn" with Syd Barrett, also check out Barretts two solo albums pure psychedelic/crazy beauty on both "the madcap laughs" and "barrett" I also reccomend the outtakes collection "Opal" if you like the first two and feel like going through a real emotional rollercoaster. Another guy you might check out is Robyn Hitchcock. Amazing. In a moment i'll post a couple links to some you tube stuff for anyone interested to check out Syd and Roky Also, a fun fact, The Cure is one of the first bands I remember as a child and Remember loving, along with the smashing pumpkins and the doors. I like a lot of stuff. Really, i'm quite obsessed. I will say that if you like the cure you should check out Joy Division, but a lot of folks are turned off by Ians vocals. However, I do believe Mr. Robert Smith "borrowed" a bit of sound from Joy Division over the years. Also, you guys should check out Days of the New Amazing stuff www.myspace.com/treecolors

I heard his stuff for the first time at a Minutemen show - they covered him, and then I found his stuff at a (dating myself here) record store. I think the Cramps covered him more than once, too. At least live...

I have to ask all Cure fans.
What is your favorite album?
heheheh.
Just curious (pun intended) if you like the "Pop" cure or the "happily depressed" cure.
Me......hmmmm, probably the head on the door and pornography.

Oh, I knew I forgot one, a rather newish band that I think harks back to the 60's psych era and the 70's prog era: Queens of The Stone Age catchy stuff..... " I can go with the flow.....do,do,do,do,do" heheh
