Oh well, he's got good taste. Are you familiar w/ Roky? He is AMAZING. If not, send me your addy and I'll burn some CD's. Yeah I know who he is - thank's for the offer, though. I heard his stuff for the first time at a Minutemen show - they covered him, and then I found his stuff at a (dating myself here) record store. I think the Cramps covered him more than once, too. At least live... Heh. I still refuse to purchase CD's. (I make Chuck buy them) It took me a few listens and some soul searching to fall in love w/ Roky but once I did, whoa nelly. He's not for everyone, though. I guess we're the same age or quite close from the show thing. I'm 34, almost 35 and saw all of these bands in dallas and later in austin for the grunge bands. I could tell you were cool from your posts on the idig site. It's nice to finally get to talk to you, LG.

I was in 7th or 8th grade when Ian Curtis committed suicide. I did listen to New Order, trying to pick up the JD vibe, but they were never my fave. Siouxsie and the Banshees was the headliner the first time I saw the Cure. Small venue, baby - I think it was either Toad's Place in New Haven, or maybe even CBGB's. First Cure bought? Japanese Whispers. Fave to listen to? Disintegration . I had forgotten about Days of the New til last year, when Travis Meeks was on tv documenting his meth addiction. Wierd, wild stuff.
I saw Roger Waters' in concert the Reg or is it Rog (did I get that backwards?) tour. Syd Barrett was definitely the bomb.

We should do a CD burn round robin, and send each other each a copy of something wild and wonderful - maybe even a mix band deal. I have some sorta punk bands doing covers of stuff that is extra swell. (Stand by Me is a great song when you stick a cattle prod in it!)

Lavandula Girl, when you saw the Cure with Siouxsie and the Banshees was Robert playing with them too? I might be going out on a limb here, but am I the only person who actually likes morrisey and the smiths? Just curious. On an interesting side note about Days of the New, Travis is from right down the road from me in Charlestown. He was one of my musical heroes and a big reason I started playing guitar. Anyhow, at the time of Intervention and prior to it I played guitar a fair bit around distillery commons with travis and on some demos for the as yet unreleased "purple" album. Travis and I were both going through a bad time in life, fortunately I was able to "drop" my bad habbits before they got as far as his and have turned my life around. Fortunately over the past year so has Travis and he is back making some great music again. You know what is really weird. Travis almost had the lead singer part in Velvet Revolver bagged if it hadn't been for his drug problems. How cool would that have been?

I'll make sure you guys get some of my music too....did I mention there was a time when I entertained the idea that I could one day be a rock star, that is before I heard mother earth call my name to tend her. This is really cool! -Alan

Yeah, I think he was - I guess I assume he was... it's been over 20 years, so the memory's fuzzy. As to the Smiths, buddy, meet me at the cemetery gates - Keats and Yeats are on your side, while Wilde is on mine! ;D Morrisey came out with a solo cd when I was finishing college, Viva Hate. It was pretty good, but I think the whole Smiths thing was the thing for me, never liked him as much as a solo. A couple of the other guys from the Smiths backed Sinead O'Connor on her first US tour, and that was a great show (I know, not cool to say about Sinead so much now, but the show was sweet) That would've been the Lion and the Cobra tour, so around the same time as Viva Hate was coming out... they were obviously done with their heroin problem, at least for the time being - they were phenomenally fat, sweating it up behind Sinead on stage. Have you ever listened to Beautiful South? They were an off shoot of the Housemartins, and they had a turn of word that was really slick. So does Throwing Muses.

Cemetary gates is awesome. There is just this thing about morriseys voice that is cool to me, i'm not really sure why, I guess it's that whole Kinda "laid back", im just me sort of thing. Viva Hate is terrific I've got that on Vinyl. Sleepytime music for me!

Oh - I forgot to say, I am cheerfully unmusical, but willing to sing at the top of my lungs, most often in traffic. My very fave guitarist, for you actual musicians' edification, is Adrian Belew.

Adrian Belew
amazing stuff really!
my fav. guitarist? Hmmm, as far as versatility and being able to write great stuff, probably Dave Navarro. He is versatille and not too overly showy. He also put out one heck of an underated solo album. More folks should check it out.

LOL...See thats what this thread was about to get y'all chatting some more...
I listen to all kinds of music...Thanks to Alan I've picked up Pink Floyd, Roky Erickson, and some of The Cure. Otherwise, I like The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd (for a little bit...No comments from the peanut gallery...*Cough* Cough* Alan Reed), lots of old country, bluegrass, pop, metal...Etc...you name it, I've listened to it....

This is really cool! -Alan I wish we had some recordings of your celtic and middle eastern stuff (though I know you have to be in a mood to play it). Its really amazing what he can do with a guitar y'all, he makes it sound like more than one instrument, not all of them necessarily a guitar. (Can't tell that I'm biased can ya!! )
