Anyone know where to find Mantis? He said he had been lurking around TL and Idig and not posting, so maybe he would like to check us out.

Lore, you can PM him at TL. He still gets his PMs there. Give it a shot. He'd prolly like it here. He's such a good bloke, we are all poorer that he isn't posting these days. He's got some good-looking maters too -- saw his pics on chat the other day.

Andy you're cool. I just don't like the climate over there now. It's not one person thats making me want to leave. It's just the fact that everything turns into a fight. There are so many people not interested in gardening and more interested in posting haiku's and politically charged garbage. To be completely honest even Jere's policies are just now weird. I'm not trash talking Jere. It's his place to do what he wishes with. So if I don't like it then I should separate myself from it. And BTW Andy I will get your postage out this week for those cuttings. Thanks again. Clark: I understand where you're coming from. I haven't been over there (or anywhere) much but I checked it out and it looks to me like Jere has decided to do his own policing again. When he lets Randel take care of it, it's generally an enjoyable forum, despite the poli area and it's conversations and characters ( I do think some of them are just exactly that ). Jere, as nice as he is reputed to be, has a bit of a god complex when he handles the threads and things do get a bit weird during those times. I'm thinking there may be more than a touch of narsicissm or other mental oddities involved, but maybe he's just really young and doesn't understand how disruptive his actions are. I have resisted the urge to order from BC so far this year. Last year I spent over $100 with them. Yes, small potatoes, but I'd miss that money in my business and wouldn't want to lose it over "family forum" ambiguities and inconsistencies. That said, Jere does supply good seeds in nice quantities for the price so I'll most likely give him some more business in the future, despite my objections to his weird politic/s/ies. If you check back in a few weeks, things may be totally different over there and you may change your mind. That said, overall, this is a far better forum, albeit slower. Alan values quality over quantity and respects everyone's beliefs, whether he shares them or not. Most importantly, as an actual farmer, he doesn't have too much time on his hands, as they are busy doing what we are all supposed to be talking about, so it really is a self policing forum which, to my knowledge, has never needed so much as a crossing guard. Jeez, a forum full of adults??? Whodathunk it?

Thanks for the compliments Michelle. I think we have a great forum here and I hope to keep it that way, like you said sometimes it gets slow, but give it a week and give people things to think about and the board goes crazy with all kinds of nice and informative discussions. I only ever had to do any admin work regarding posters once when we first started up because there was a trouble maker trying to bait folks, other than that I've never deleted a single thread and hope not to. We have some of the best, most respectful, and knowledgeable posters on the net who also double as some of my best friends and gardening buddies. It's definitely nice that everyone does a good job of moderating themselves here and hopefully we will stay that way. -Alan

Alan, we all appreciate the work you have done on the Forum. And I know you are not going to put up with the crap other forums do. There are times I really want to go off on people. But I bite my tongue. Andy, you are one of the reasons I stay at Idig. I am sure others will agree. It's a good possiblity I am leaving Idig after the holidays and my obligations are filled. I am not sure I like the "new" rules. I know they will be selectively enforced. I will change my avatar from the pentacle, so it is not religious. (Well the "right" religion anyway.) Pyro Rob, I thought you were already a member here. Welcome!

Well, thank you everybody, for your kind words! I truly didn't expect that, and no, I wasn't "fishing" either, LOL!
Let me just say that I have nothing against T-land, I just don't post much because I'm not that much of a tomato-head, more of a "fruit-nut", really. No, what I was referring to was a certain member who, I admit, had a right to vent, who dropped my name specifically, saying I made him leave idig. I did get heated with him, i admit, and probably typed way too fast for my "politesse" filter to kick in. That being said, I think he took my post, much too seriously to heart, reading as much animosity into it as he could. Mind you, this was after he made the not-too-veiled insinuations that I was one of the many enemies surrounding him at idig, and that he had only ever found his way there to settle a score, anyway! All in all, since I don't post very much at T-land, I felt that even though my silence on the matter would not help, responding would look far worse, so I chose isolationism on the matter.

A little isolationism can be a good thing at times. Just wanted to make sure that there were no misunderstandings. Coming back here reminds me what a nice forum Alan has going here. I gotta get back here more often.

I went over to TL and Mantis has an e-mail option so I e-mailed him an invite. I hope he'll come over. Had anyone noticed that we are waiting for our 100th member.

I'm glad that any problems here seem to self-moderate themselves and you guys are capable of being very adult about things here on or forum, I'm not going to lie, I think we really have one of the best forums around and that's why when I am asked about inviting someone I just let you guys figure out for yourselves who you guys want around, heck if nothing else just remember that you guys can post a poll asking about inviting in a particular member and decide from that poll what to do if you want.
Thanks for being such good folks to one another and keeping things here on the up and up. I don't want to be a prick but I think I can safely say that Jere and I won't ever share a cup of coffee and his politics are going to end up biting him and his business in the ass one of these days.
-Alan
Edited to add: I do believe tomato land is one of the better forums out there as well. with tomatoville and idig low on my list of places to visit and gardenweb the lowest.

I will change my avatar from the pentacle, so it is not religious. (Well the "right" religion anyway.) FP, has someone complained about it? Personally, I wouldn't worry about that. If you worry about your penticle, then I need to worry about my signature, and I ain't a gonna change that! Well, I might change it, but only when I find a Scripture I like better. It was my understanding that avatars were supposed to reflect something of who we are, no? Well, if you feel that strongly about your spiritual being (and I think you should), then by all means, keep your "holy symbol" (yeah, that's my Dungeons and Dragons geek coming out!) as your avatar!

I would leave it up too..if it represents your beliefs and it isn't vulgar. I'd leave it.

I looked at the member list and there were quite a few members who had never posted or had become inactive. If they have an e-mail option maybe we should e-mail them and ask them to come back.
What ever happened to Shadowwalker? I heard about his problems, was moving back to Colorado, and never posted again.
