William, its extreme as temperature!
For the seeds of moschata or tetsukabuto, you must have a soil more dry than the seeds of maxima. For the viability, a seed unformed could germinate, we could have of surprise. Tomorrow, 14°C 57,2°F the morning and 27°C 80,6°F the afternoon. A little heat period before a period with cold night.

i've been so busy with tomatoes this year that i forgot to check some beans and so when rains finally returned it was right at the time when i had a break of putting up tomatoes and then it starts raining for days at a time. luckily i've been able to get caught back up the past few days, but still a bit too much rain so there is more spoilage loss than i'd like.
still i've found a few cross breeds already (brown of course) and some of my experimental plantings have worked out ok.
melons have been really great. i just picked another few more and there are ten more out there yet to get ripe, but they are small and i'm not sure if they will get bigger or not now it is getting later in the season. been a fun learning experience.
other projects coming along.

After two weeks of mostly pleasant average summer temps. it is 50 degrees right now and down into the thirties tonight and tomorrow. Better than last year but still far, far, far from average. Garden loved it though.

the frequent rains are playing havoc on any dry bean crops, but i've managed to get some picked before they've been spoiled. i'm not sure how this cooler and rainy weather will play out for any seeds forming or coming on in the pods, but for those beans that are just now putting on flowers it may be interesting how well they finish up before any frosts come along.
the melons i've picked lately are mostly watery and not all that much flavor, but since they are edible we'll eat them anyways. i hate wasting food.

Cool and rather nice here, highs only around 80F. Nice rain last evening. There is a very odd overcast appearance to the sky, yesterday it was very grey all day. Clearer this morning after last night's rain but back again now. Can't smell anything like in recent years when the Smoky Mountains, Montana or Canada burned but I guess it must be from the fires out west.

yes, the haze is over to the far eastern areas of the USoA now. not sure how much or how long. otherwise beautiful weather here. even the forecast for rain this evening has been removed from the forecast so i can not worry as much about getting all the beans picked through. i should actually be able to get this round almost done today.
