Everyone who has a bit of extra room should give a couple of strains of Brandywine a go. I don't eat tomatoes so I can't personally comment on flavor, and it may just be possible that Brandywines taste reputation proceedes it, however locally at market my Brandywines are expected from me in bulk every week.
I've never had a problem with Jubilee ripening, only with my father picking them early while they are still yellow, which is when he prefers them. Jubilee is just a classic, OP, commercial type tomato which will always have a place here on our little farm. In Washington County Indiana if you do not grow Jubilee and Rutgeurs you are not a gardener.
We do really well with bedding plant sales here, even with a 1/2 mile long gravel driveway wedged between a railroad track and a creek. People come from miles around to buy plants and their expectations keep growing every year that I offer things that are different. This year in particular I know my customers are already expecting a ton of my "mer de noms" variety as well as "la mer (noir)" which were both big hits last year as seedlings an as actual produce at the local marketts.

I too forgot to mention Delicious like American Gardener above did. It's a terrifically nice tomato that rivals Brandywine in taste and is often asked for by name here in my area. A great and productive tomato that folks who don't have good luck with Brandywine should give a go at least once.

Alan, what source do you use for Delicious seeds? And have you found much difference between sources? Which source have you found to be the best for flavor and production?

I sourced min a couple of years back from Wal-Mart gardens and have saved seed since, a lot of people here at market grow it and I haven't seen a lot of diversity other than one tomato that clearly was not Delicious, but then again I haven't grown out multiple seed sources to compare. Perhaps I should go ahead and look for a few more strains from other places for a comparison this year?
I saw that Wal-Mart gardens $0.30 seed packetts included delicious again this year so seed is cheap if your out and about one day, might be worth giving a grow?
As far as Flavor, I know that our customers really enjoy them and often ask for them by name, as far as eating them, you know the type of charlatain that I am, I grow them but don't eat them! The are fairly productive and certainly more productive than Brandywine, though they are rather disease prone which is a downside, but with a little TLC they do just fine.

I was mediocre on Delicious, big tomatoes, flavor was okay. Then again, Brandywine Sudduth's Strain does not taste good in my yard. But, it does produce a big beautiful tomato.

Alan, do me a favor. Look in the Wal*Mart racks there and see if they have Heatwave II again this year. They've had it a few years in a row. But this year, the Wal*Mart Garden seeds didn't include Heatwave II in Evansville. Also noticed that the seed packs say "packed by Plantation" rather than Northrup King (although they're both owned by same company now). Maybe that has something to do with the absence of Heatwave II. Anyhow ... I need some Heatwave to send to a friend in the South.

You always find goodies at dollar general. I'll have to check them out. I haven't been in one of their stores in a few years.

Favorite tomato for putting up? I have the Prince Borghese (probably spelled that wrong) for drying. Then I heard it wasn't that great. Is there another drying tomato?
What about canners for sauce or whole tomatoes? Thank you, Robin
