Sure, I will be inventorying my seeds over the next few weeks and can take a few photos while I go.

Sounds interesting!
I find some pea seeds (Golden Sweet is one in paticular) that start with light brown coats get dramatically darker in storage, so it might be worth noting age of seed (if not relatively fresh).

Cool. Yeah good point. The more fresh the better, but i figure the more photos we can gather the better idea we can get and select the best photos.
After seeds we can move on to other things like pod shape photos and flower color and shape. That is one thing that bugs me about the JIC is they don't have many photos for certain traits.

Ok im making a little progress on this. Not sure if openwetware is the best place to host the wiki but it'll do for now at least. It can always be copied and/or moved to another wiki later. I might look into the OpenAg wiki down the line.
Anyway but since it is a wiki anyone should be able to sign up and edit/create pages too, not just me.
I've tentatively got Golden Sweet and Joni's Taxi up. I don't have photos of Joni's Taxi seeds but i have some seeds that T sent me last year that i havn't planted yet so i can take some pics at some point. Biskopens Graert is next on my list. Also still playing around with wiki formatting mumbo jumbo. The pics on Golden Sweet look sorta funky.
Suggestions for more subcatetgories and or information? I heard back from Alan Kapuler and he would like Snow, Snap, Shelling info and/or subcategories added. Which i was planning but havn't got to yet.
P.s. fell free to still submit photos even if a variety already has them. Like multiple photos for seeds is fine or pods or flowers.

i could use some help on the wiki whenever anyone gets time. I'm thinking of adding a little section at the bottom of each variety for reviews. If people have grown a particular variety and liked it or hated it you can leave your name and a brief 1-2 sentence review.
I will look to see also if i can create a wiki on my crappy defunct website and see if i can also copy the wiki in it's current state there too.

Registered and tried to make a few changes and additions. Went OK, a learning experience. The tools bar and editing functions are pretty limited. Easier to add info here and there once bare bones are in place. Maybe having a standard list of entries you would like on each variety page would organize it a bit?

I also registered Andrew, I'm hesitant to do any edits till I understand the process a bit better, and I have to dig through my pics for my old pea photos.

Cool Thanks Guys! haha yeah it was pretty funny as i was just in the process of re-uploading the photos for the Golden Sweet page andthe photos apparently were too big that the wiki didn't like them, and in the middle of all that the page changed! and had new information!! haha. it was pretty cool actually. The page could still use some more fine tuning, but at least it is a basic page and philagardener glad you got some basic wiki editing practice. I had to actually resize and shrink a few of those old pod photos of mine to get them to work. oxbowfarm, cool. Feel free to play around with it. I'm still getting used to it myself. There is a learning curve to be sure, but not horrible. On the OpenWetWare wiki (which is basically the same as mine) i found clicking on my username i could create a page under my stuff and i could play around with how all the wiki editing stuff works. The "preview" button before publishing a page comes really in handy. Especially when trying to resize photos and stuff to preview if they look like you want them to. Yeah, i'd like to get a sort of standard page layout going, but i havn't yet come up with one. If you glance around at each of the peas pages i already did get on there you can sort of get an idea of what a good standard layout might look like. I'm thinking standard useful data like genotype data (and appropriate link to JIC database (or copying the JIC info directly), pod length, plant height, tendril type, unusual characteristics, etc. Basically what info an average gardener would want but with extra info plant breeders would want to know too. With good photos when available. Thoughts? p.s. if things go well maybe there would be an interest to do other things other than peas. Squash?

Funny, that explains why the page seemed to be changing under me too! I put some text in and it promptly disappeared, and then the content came back different and I could't find what I originally entered. I saw the broken image links pop up but didn't know how to fix them, and then figured out how to add my own photo by model those. At least I didn't break too much while I was in the china shoppe!

I've got a bunch of pics but not sure how to add them. Well, feel free to make an account. biolumo.com/index.php?title=Special:CreateAccount&returnto=Special%3AUserLoginand then on the left there should be a link that say's upload file. You can even put who took the photo in the photo comment section and/or choose a license for the photo. I've borrowed a few photos to begin with from Rebsie and Soren, but i have tried to give credit. biolumo.com/index.php?title=Special:Uploadfeel free to play around with it. Like i mentioned to the others, once you have a wiki account if you click on your name you should be able to play around with creating wiki pages and tinker around on your own page(s) if you like. Here is a link to my original user page on OpenWetWare if you'd like to see what you can do with it all. I have not tried to recreate my user page on this new wiki and not sure if i will. It's pretty old and not updated. openwetware.org/wiki/User:Andrew_Barney

Now before I do too much damage, which wiki page are we using?
